In both cases, Cronus, it is how you do it that is the problem.

 

Not making any claims that you're a bad person, but the "I've got standards" part 1) was unnecessary, and 2) implies that if you were inclined to flirt with a bonded, Valiska would be subpar. "I wasn't planning to [hit on [Valiska]]" would have been more than sufficient.

I offer this not as an attack, but as an explanation; you seem convinced there is nothing you can do to make people here see you in a better light, which is not at all true.

 

Cronus, it's rude to make passes at other people's committed partners without the freely offered and freely given permission of all parties concerned. It shows disrespect for the relationship and for the partners.

I am going to be charitable and assume that you were implying that this type of behaviour was below your standards. This is mostly for the sake of my mental health, so if I'm wrong, please don't correct me.

However, your remark could also be interpreted to mean that you think I am undesirable.

Now, it would be perfectly understandable if that were the case. I'm quite a bit older than you and I'm not a member of your species. However, it's considered rude to say so, as it's an affront to both my feelings and Stanford's tastes and choices.

Normally, it would also be rude for me to enter a conversation by asking you not to make passes at me, but as a cursebreaker I get some leeway because if you did try to make a pass at me, you wouldn't be the first person to confuse a professional opening of boundaries with a personal one.

At any rate.

In order to free yourself from @Genie, you need to clear your mind and remind yourself and the universe of the following truths:

1) You were lying when you made the contract. (Don't argue with me. Your motives as previously stated indicate that you were lying through your teeth.)

2) This is a dreamscape. What happens here does not have to become reality.

Rebuke the gun and tell it you lied. You never intended to bind yourself to its cause. Remind it that it has no power here.

Now, visualise the ties you created between yourself and the gun. See how very weak they are, because they were forged under false pretences? Burn them away in your mind.

Burn them and burn the image of the gun in your mind until there is nothing left but ash and it no longer exists for you.

Take a wand or a knife and whip up the ashes and imagine them flying through a rip in the air into the outer darkness.

Go back to the waking world. You will feel a strong desire to bathe yourself in cold water and salt or alcohol or all of the above. Give in to this. Scrub the top of your head where the bones come together and the back of your neck until they are just a bit uncomfortable.

Don't think about the gun any more. Don't talk to it. Don't do anything to reinforce its existence in your own personal mindscape.

Assert your will to be free.

And remember, in so doing, you must give up the feeling of persecution that comes from believing that you are bound and that your binding is not your own fault because other people forced you to bind yourself. You are not bound and nobody here could force you to do anything. If you do not reject the idea that Ford can force you to make bad decisions, you will not be able to reject the idea that the gun can hold you to them.

The only way that you can get out of this is to acknowledge that you are in control of your own destiny, and not simply a piece of flotsam that can be buffeted back and forth by the words and deeds of others. In the real world, other people can in fact hurt you, but they usually need a bit of cooperation to do their worst.

The fact that you lied is very important. You never intended to fulfil your part of it; you intended to use the gun as a threat, but not as a weapon. If you had actually made this contract in a material space, this is one of the threads I would tug on to unravel it. And that would probably work, as long as you were willing to accept responsibility for your own intentions.

It's very rare for people to make deals with demons and not mean it. Most of the time, they're desperate enough to do anything; demons prey on people who are desperate, or who can be convinced that they're desperate. Sometimes they're even convinced they're in love. So most people actually are telling the truth when they say they're willing to give up their free will to the demon; their consent is misinformed, but it is not a lie; they made the deal with their Will and intent.

You, however, were not truly willing to accept the terms and conditions. This would make your case relatively easy to solve.
