And I think there is a difference about this space as in the dimension does not directly affect our life on the TEAM in tangible ways except in the moments where it does for some reason. ...as someone on the TEAM's comm staff, not surprised correspondence is read. (Sorry, Lacuna, it's part of life on this ship.) We're all nosy slaggers up there, and mostly we don't care if something's "too personal". (See also: the healthy betting pools and porn exchange rings between us and sec.)

What becomes disturbing is using those details as weapons. Which is smart, yes. But we are expected to work together, as odd as it seems, not spend our time gathering tools to use against each other. Sometimes judgement goes badly-- as shown even here!-- but... on the whole, we try not to make public anything that could actually be damaging. And Scanner's use of his abilities is, in contrast... disturbing. Even if it really is only to be expected.

I expect comms staff to read communications. Especially when it has to pass by them first. I don't expect comms staff to hack into private channels and giggle about the contents in such a way that it implies they might air whatever grievances have gone on in the private channels if I happen to annoy them or refuse to do favors for them.

It's the same reason why I don't have my own room. Coercing favors from someone because you're in a position of power or authority is an abhorrent tactic.
