My son's not a terrible person. He clearly needs to keep up with his share of the cleaning and I'll talk to him about that. Part of being an adult is doing things you don't enjoy doing because they need to be done--without being told, preferably, or if it's something you just don't notice because of the way your brain works, without complaining when you're told. We all have sensory issues, but that doesn't mean that those of us who don't notice clutter or aren't driven insane by it have the right to force everyone else to be miserable when it's our stuff in the way.

But you can't say someone's a terrible person because they don't like cleaning. Cleaning is something that everyone has to do, but I think very few people actually enjoy doing it. Even Mabel enjoys doing it because she's taking care of her family and her home, not because scrubbing is actually fun.

We try to assign chores around the household based upon who's got an aptitude for it (it's not fair to expect people to be responsible for taking care of things that they literally can't see, or to do things that they've no talent for, in a household as big as ours) but everyone's got to clean up after themselves, especially those of us who chose to spend all their time in shared spaces.

And Dipper? This means that if you choose to live in a room full of girls you cannot rely on them to do all the cleaning.

That's sexist.

And in the case of Teleny, futile; she's less so inclined than you are, but when the other girls ask her to do something, I bet she does it instead of waiting for Mabel to get sick and tired of her mess.

And in the case of Loreli, dangerous.

She's your kismesis. She knows how to piss you off.

...still not going to try and make plans without much more information. If something worth the risk could be done, believe Jame would have done so already? Does not sound like Jame is happy where... she? is. (...for that matter, making plans would be useless-- on Jame's end because plans here do not stay, on my end because would need to consult crew before actually committing to any offers, on both ends because do not believe we are in the same universe even.)

I speak fluent Talassani. I'm more comfortable living among the cattes than I ever was living on Earth in my home dimension. Occasionally Talassani women make envious noises at my wife regarding how very well behaved I am, although they tend to spend more time being scandalised that she uses my name (until they find out she was once a Beijada; that shuts them up).

But I still bleed red. I cannot get a blood transfusion from a catte without dying.

And people who don't know me still react to me as what I appear to be.

If I go back to Earth in my home dimension, I do not stop being a white male human, which means that people defer to me and treat me better than other humans without even being aware that they're doing it, and actively encourage me to think that my opinions are more important and valuable than those of differing physical conformation. (In point of fact, this is usually not the case, unless we're discussing physics, in which case very few people--usually only Sans, Qihanna and Imrat--get to argue with me.)

And I have similarly had the experience of going to conferences where, until they actually hear my name or recognise my face, people automatically assume Qihanna's the teacher and I'm the student or even the hired help. Because she's a lady and a catte, and while discrimination among Talassani is much softer and less constraining than it is among humans, there's a general consensus that women are calmer and better inclined to pursuits that involve sitting around and thinking--on top of the general notion that mathematical talent tends to blossom early and fizzle out with greater age.

Similarly, no amount of insisting that you're human on the inside is going to change the fact that you've been encouraged to think that your opinions are more valuable than those of warmer-blooded people since birth and aren't even aware of the extent to which it has affected you, nor does it change the fact that people see your blood colour on your garments, in your lips and in your eyes, and see the fins on your ears, and feel unsafe and/or deferential around you regardless of your merits or your personal history, because life has taught them that people like you can hurt them and get away with it.

Living outside of troll society, your privilege is less of a factor than it would be elsewhere, but it still comes into play when you encounter trolls from other dimensions. Particularly Alternian trolls, who are from a much more violent society where someone who looked like you could get away with killing them out of hand, maybe.

Also, it will get in your way when you are interacting with people who think you're full of yourself because you're behaving the way your own society permits seadwellers to behave.
