If I can, let me clarify: while serving on this ship has certainly introduced me to the concept of bots who don't trust strange medics to have their best interests at spark - most of them with good reason - the concept is still strange to me. It's antithetical to everything that I believe. The comment that I made was intended to be about the relative levels of apprehension the crew overall holds me in versus Captain Nichrome. Also, because of past experience, I value consent very highly, and the idea of someone treating a patient, who is by definition vulnerable, in any way other than with care makes me extremely angry. Angry enough to say unwise things and make threatening remarks towards those hypothetical (and sometimes not-so-hypothetical) people. I don't intend to misuse my medical knowledge - but I am a captain as well as CMO, and problems with crew not respecting boundaries, or anything else the crew feels needs the attention of a higher authority, can be brought to me. That was the message I intended, but... I fear I've irreparably damaged that.

It's a lot different from raising a normal Sparkling I assume since normal sparklings aren't terrifying death machines of cannibalistic despair but they will do very well at asking vehicles if they can eat them before doing it and only eating root-mode mechs when all three of the captains give the okay! They are just also very dangerous, but they have spark signatures and that means they are the SAME as us and have feelings and thoughts and I will try to get them personhood rights once they are well behaved enough to get out of quarantine...

If a crew doesn't include a medic, I'd assume someone would have the good sense to just try things until the problem is marginally fixed. I wouldn't know, most crews in the area when we were still denned up in Menson had at least one medic bonded in. And since most either don't leave the crew that adopted them as a sparklet or join their sparkbonded's, there's... hm. I forget, has anyone told Scanner that a Licentan crew is empathically linked? Because that's definitely a factor in the level of trust my patients/crewmates feel towards me-- if I intended to hurt them, they would know before I had a chance to actually take action, and hurting them would also hurt me.

Licentans are, in fact, built to take the input from... hm, upper limit so far as I've seen is seven? "Silence" for lack of a better word bothers us more-- there's a built-in processor component that handles most of the bonding process and input, and without periodic input from crewmates it can actually cause mental illness and, occasionally, more physically-visible symptoms in the mech in question. Mood imbalances and language processing issues are the most common symptoms, but I've seen frame degradation as well. Whether that's due to lack of self-care or an actual physical malfunction I'm not sure, but that's really not an experiment I'd like to run even if I had willing subjects.

 

I will say if you are actually dying and I happen to notice, I will treat you whether you come to me or not. I did say emergencies were different.

Even with that sense dialed as low as possible, we're still always aware of at least our crewmates' general locations. (...outside of this space, that is. Unless more than one of us is in here at the same time, it just registers as "distant," which is... a little unnerving.) To be entirely cut off from them...

Well. In all my six and a half million years of functioning, I've never experienced it, and I never want to. The very idea is... discomfiting. [Silverburst ruffles their wings, obviously more than a little uncomfortable.] It was even before I'd bonded with a mech recovering from isolation-sickness, and now... even that small taste, even knowing we're moving forward and he's recovering, just the filtered memories are horrifying enough.

 

Frametype and method of creation ain't a means of determining what a 'something' is. MTO medic capable of caring about MTOs above other mechs, if so inclined.

Not sure how 'Bots do it. Liked to help mechs of any origin myself.
