They make him susceptible to ascribing personality to even very dangerous entities mimicking some of his behavior, and then becoming attached and trying to protect them. And... yes, when it comes down to it one can really only trust one's crew. They are the highest priority, and to assume someone not bonded would place you over their own crewmates... [Silverburst pulls a face.] Well. I wouldn't say it's unthinkable, but it's certainly distasteful. And if someone did value an ally over their crewmate, I would trust them even less.
