I appreciate that you recognize the benevolent intent of the spell. It's... slightly more metaphysically complicated than that? I'm not the one of our group that was the master of spellcraft, but the one who was, the one who'd regularly cast that spell for us... he more than any of us would have been fundamentally opposed to non-consensual mind effects.

I'm a bloodworker, a cursebreaker and the queen of my pride (as well as a professor of alchemy) and ... well, I'm not surprised that it's more complex than that, but I think part of it is that "Calm Emotions" just isn't the way malevolent spells are named--they're either suspiciously sweet sounding like that awful "gentling" spell I ran into in Dimension 89-12!a or frankly malevolent, not... just straightforward like that. But also I find you a soothing presence generally.

Clearly what's needed here is a contest on the relative sweetness of everyone in the liminal space. I volunteer to be the opposite end, which is unceasing bitterness. I think this will scale nicely.
