...I am capable of... hm, 'shutting my eyes', so to speak, ignoring that particular sense if I have time to prepare myself. (I will most assuredly be doing so if Rust decides to go interface with the alien!) That does not mean I want to see my crewmate hurt, or start a drawn-out war with another crew over nothing more than wounded pride.

 

Oh, if he wants to antagonize me, he is free to. I-

Oh, he's free to antagonize anyone he pleases, Half Life included. I'm equally free to point out when Rust's being an idiot, just as Half Life's crew is equally free to take whatever offense they please and attack us for it.

Freedom is not the issue here. The issue is we just saw how far things can escalate here, and we do not need a repeat performance.

Oh um. I'm sure nothing quite so drastic would come from our side. It... hurts me too after all.

 

Half Life is sure. I am not. And I will not take that chance when I can, much more safely, head off Rust's temper before it gets the better of him again. He needs to relearn impulse control, yes, but until then I am more than capable and willing of supporting my crewmates where they falter on their own.

Pain I understand. Strong sensations blur anyway, at high levels of arousal.

But he said 'misery'.

I don't want anyone I care about to be miserable.

 

As I explained to Silverburst, pain and misery aren't the same thing. I have allowed people to inflict pain upon me with great joy and enthusiasm, and I have very occasionally been the one to inflict it. But I have no desire whatsoever to make anyone unhappy.

 

But WHAT IF they just really want to be unhappy?

 

Then they probably shouldn't date Ford.
