okay! it looks like, when people delete their posts, the #xxxx post count in the lower right corner next to the + Quote button adjusts to indicate how many posts currently exist in the thread.

which means, if you try to link to a post that gets deleted, the link doesn't quite work. i think it brings you to the page that it was on, but it might just bring you to the last page of the thread. will need to wait until shitposting commences to page 934 before i can confirm.
