...which is why I specified which definition of immortal the second query was using. Perhaps a rephrase is in order?

What if the being in question was incapable of dying by age, assuming mechanoid or comparably repairable/replacable physiology? Within Stanford's previously stated categories, would the being in question fall under "may have become a more powerful being", "is [mortal/a normal person/etc] and the remaining beings have vivid imaginations", or a third, yet-undefined category?

There's only one way to test that hypothesis, and I'd really rather you didn't.

I knew what you meant, but...

If it's natural for the being not to die unless damaged irreparably, then the being's still mortal and remains in the mortal category, unless it becomes unkillable. Also, if the being is unkillable, how do we know if it ceased to be mortal or never was mortal?

For me, my life used to be linked to that of the soul of the person who made me. If she dies, then I would have slowly ceased to be. But since my soul shard grew into a full soul, I have my own lifespan. Which is quite long, since I have no genetic code.

Well, my gods didn't make our (material) world - only most of the beings that live on it. They did make Altar.

    and

...apparently a different historical iteration of me from somewhere in our sheaf's possibilities made the plane of Memoria?

I am very much not a god.

The more direct answer is appreciated. Thanks.

If the being can be found-- and trusted to answer in a manner both comprehensible by the questioner and honest-- then it would be easy enough to simply ask. If one must rely only on surviving records, the true answer might never be found.

Though now I do wonder what Primus might count as. If he exists. And is still alive.

I don't know, reading religious texts gives me an awful itch int he transformation seams, it's very unpleasant.
And... Scrap if I know. Do planets count as alive?

Religious texts can be important historical records, if the reader is willing to sift through multiple accounts and take even the concurrent details with a massive portion of salt.

Certain texts claim Primus became Cybertron (or the Well, or Vector Sigma, or any number of other things...) Thus the question of "living planets".

How do you have a body, then?

Not as a general rule, no. However, my wife's people generally do not survive long captivity or forced labour; they sicken and die. And many elderly people who have had long happy marriages pass away despite apparently being in good health within days of their partners' deaths. Furthermore, people who are ill generally do much better in treatment if they want to live.

Norm can wish for things, and then they happen, so conceivably he could wish himself dead. But nobody wants that to happen.

But even normal people, who do not have Norm's level of power, can grow ill very quickly when their will to live has been completely destroyed.

It just takes an awful lot of pain to destroy the will to live in most organisms. We have an animal will to survive that lasts much longer than the psychological desire to go on living.

And then there's spite. On the rare occasions when Talassani survive long captivity or forced labour, it's almost always because of spite.

Religious texts are very hard reading sometimes; it's difficult to sort the facts out from the things people want to be true, and most of them are dripping with propaganda.

I would say that planets with functioning ecosystems do count as alive.

...I knew we were talking about Primus here.
