Oh, I can answer this one, though the answer involves alternate timelines, so it's a bit confusing. In the universe where he never appeared to us, I, along with a team of others, came up with a code string that surpresses the reproductive protocols until they are specifically activated. In the universe where he did, he helped me come up with essentially the same thing. So we have that now.

 

*quietly gets off of the dead robot's face and walks closely over to @Valiska Pines *

 

"Modified by playing with genes, or modified during life, or both?" she asks, intensely curious. "Like with you, you vary from the standard human form quite substatially, and I bet a lot of it was genetic. I wonder what your designer was going for."

She steps closer to look at him better. "Not a type I know of, and I should know something as big as this. Unless it's a secret thing. Governments. Military."

 

Valiska smiles at Juice.

"We have always been friendly," Valiska says gently, "although I would not say we are close."

Sometimes Caboose says things that Valiska finds incredibly disturbing, but he's an innocent and she would never hurt his feelings if it were at all avoidable.

 

"He just has species dysphoria," Valiska says, frowning. "Biologically, he's no more human than I am, and I'm not even a primate. Despite appearances, he is in fact an insect, and I am a feline."

 

And I have certainly always appreciated medics. You would be surprised how many people shoot librarians when the librarians in question wear the wrong badge.

She steps forward to take a better look at Valiska. The ears, the carnivore teeth — so fascinating — and she stops herself. "Where are my manners? I am Dr Angela Ziegler, and I am from Earth in the year 2065. Pleased to meet you."
