Well. We landed fine and dandy, started setting up-- had a few local critters come try an' take chunks outta Limmy, whatever, it happens, but they got a lot of my people, too. So I start working on things, watching, planning, as you do. These critters are big, nasty, and can take a fair few hits, but they don't work together too well 'less they're defendin' littles'a their own.

So me'n a few sciencey-types get the idea to link a couple'a mechs up so what they can work together better, they'll know where everyone's aimin' so's not to get in the crossfire, be able t'talk plans quicker, that sort'a thing. We round up a couple'a volunteers an' get to work, and yeah, failures happen! All kinds of things can go wrong tinkering with processors! Takes us a good bit, and we've got the hotspots fired down so's they don't go spittin' more newsparks up while we can't even defend the ones we've got, so by the time we hit on a solution what works we're... eh... maybe runnin' a little low on supplies, you dig?

An' it goes in circles for a good bit as nature does-- each failure we learn something to improve, each surviving beast learns a little more about our weak points, on and on and on. So we grab our last few volunteers, whip up our best coding yet-- and it works like a dream. Total unity of mind, almost-unidentifiable camouflage, the strongest protective drive we could install. Take them, hunt down the one what's been giving the most trouble, and...

...well. Shifters are still spawning, Limmy's spark still burns. Could'a turned out worse.
