Though I fear you lost me about three biological jargon words ago, I am not at all knowledgeable in the field of organic sciences and have only taken up some sporadic medical experiences in the field. I deal in death, not life, you see.

Ford smiles. "I am primarily a physicist," he says, "but I cross-train, like the rest of my group. Anyhow, the point is that organic life is programmed to self-destruct and there ought to be a way to fix that in sapients. The life cycle will always depend upon plants feeding animals and animals feeding other animals, but I see no reason why sapients and their sentient companions should have to leave the material world before they're ready. People who say they'd get bored if they were immortal can shuffle off the coil if they want to, but I feel like I could live another ten lifetimes and still not have learned enough. I've no intention of exiting stage left in thirty years without protestation; I need to live at least as long as my disgracefully young partners do."

 

"I wouldn't recommend my route to immortality," Anhelia says, "but it does work. I will not age, though serious physical damage would end me without immediate repair. I'll look like a dead twenty-three year old forever."

I know troll biology is insect-based and not mammalian, but I wonder if the quirks that enable the colder castes to live longer could be adapted at least to an extent?
... I wonder if they could be adapted to balance out the discrepancies within the species at least somewhat, as well, come to think of it.

I would recommend relying on minerals for sustenance, except I am at least vaguely aware there are quite a few continuities in which the conflict between autobots and decepticons was primarily a resource scarcity driven one as opposed to one of ideology. And even in the one I am from, quite a few of our conflicts and problems were had over fuel.
I can't say I understand being overly attached to one's life, but I am sure there are more reprehensible reasons for it than wanting to spend time with one's lovers.

Ford laughs softly. "Even before I met these two, I was sure I could never run out of things to learn. But there is never time enough for love. The grave's a fine and private place; but none, I think, do there embrace."

Oh we have peace. Contributes greatly to my feeling like I am superfluous and a relic of a time gone by.
