If they had a few more of your kind they might've accidentally developed a purpose and actually had someone do something worthwhile around there and they just couldn't have that.

Raised to it, I'm afraid. Too analytical for the right magic, but I was fantastic at soothing high tempers. It's part of what was meant to make me a great spy, but it rather turned out the opposite of subterfuge.

That sounds similar to how the more serious Orlesians do it. The chevaliers and the nobles who know what a real battle is. The poor couldn't afford the steel to duel even if they were allowed, but the nobles... Of course, there's other aspects to the Game. The Bards, the Masks, the parties and the whispers. It's exhilarating, and to be quite honest, I despise it.

You could tell the dangerous nobles by how little they said. Vivienne was quite the example of that.

[He laughs and shakes his head.]

You're a terrible tease Dorian. Now let's see... I suppose it would have been right after he came back from Tevinter the first time he'd gone up to check on his contacts. We were aware of the risk, even after the greater threats had been dispatched, but Leliana typically catches assassins well before they get into Skyhold. But this one was terribly clever, and very adept at climbing sheer walls, no matter how little grip there was to them.

So the poor thing gets up to my room, hides himself away under my bed, and Dorian and I get up there and we noticed that the room was rather nippy for our intended purposes so we set fire runes around the bed at a safe distance from the blankets to keep things warmer. You see how this might affect our hidden assassin?

And the bed is made of fine Orelesian wood and brass. Damn near impenetrable. Completely solid under the mattress. Poor bastard couldn't even stab us through the pillows.

[Snickering at the memory, he shakes his head again.]

After a few hours, I think he got sick and tired of it and decided the pay wasn't worth it. It was a bit of an upsetting surprise to have someone under your bed demand to be let free this instant, but after a bit of questioning, we turned him over to Leliana and I believe she made good use of him.

My diplomatic efforts, meanwhile, seem to be restricted to doing as Josephine tells me, then haring off and making decisions that cast her carefully organized political plans into utter chaos. The poor woman, she despairs of me.

So they're some kind of living machine? But what did they transform into. .. stranger metal shapes.

 

Ah, Josephine. We Inquisitors are not nearly good enough for her, I swear. Good at playing to the egos of my clan as I was, I'm certainly no diplomat without her. Vivienne helped too, in her own way. But, treat her to a nice trip to Val Royeaux and she might forgive you yet. And if Sera takes you pranking, do not do the funniest thing possible, she will be mad at your for weeks and it will be awful. [He smiles ruefully.]

I wonder if those are the natural shapes of their homeland? It stands to reason that they'd have a different type of wildlife than us. I wonder what it must be like.

Oh, I apologize. I didn't know that apparently your golems aren't made of dead dwarves and lyrium. Do you think it might be because we are from different worlds?
