I've heard that blowing up buildings is apparently the rebellious discourse of choice, but I can't in good faith recommend it. It does do quite a bit to shake up the understood truths of the world, though. For instance: reality isn't solid! That was an interesting objective truth to be violently revealed as subjective.

Dismantle the institutions that pretend the knowledge they produce and construct from their biased personal experience is "objective". Take power from the elite and decentralize academia.
A knowledge producing institution that firmly acknowledges its own history and the biases fields may come with is one that does not need to cling to ideological fallacies lest the entire house of cards break apart.
If you do not have to spend centuries decyphering the scientific premises your fellow researchers are working with, working together with many different people from many different backgrounds becomes much more achievable, allowing a more holistic, less hegemonial and orthodox canon of knowledge to be produced and disseminated.
So basically if everyone checks themselves before they wreck themselves it becomes easier to work together. It's an honor system meant to prevent internalized biases from oppressing certain groups on the basis of canonized enshrined "knowledge" born from petty grudges or millenia of oppression.

I hesitate to call it the "right" direction because... well... the topic at hand probably suitably illustrates my rather rocky relationship with declaring things "right" and "wrong" without qualifiers :P

That is a form of rebellion, yes. A valid one. Protesting in front of schools would be another one. Lobbying for admission for someone from a group previously barred from academia would be another one. Stealing books and teaching yourself things "above your station" would also be considered rebellion.
Rebellion can be many more things than bombs and blaster fire.

 

I'm afraid the loss of life isn't something I care for. Not much of a fan of war either, no matter how necessary it may seem. Might I suggest blowing up sacks of rocks?

Yes! That can be rebellion too! Or sharing learned history, to widen the knowledge of others.

This hypothetical theory disgusts and personally offends me. "Assume sapience until proven otherwise" doesn't mean unless you don't feel like it! I'm perfectly willing to take apart a stranger for energon and spares, but that doesn't mean they're not a person!

In this light, agreed; new information should be incorporated, plans revised. Rigidity is very rarely of any use.

So go find a building and explosives? Explosions really aren't difficult to create, it's usually the inhabitants or enemy that make things harder.

I apologize for confusing you. I personally would probably rather choose a more... physical approach simply on account of my personal history and maybe that was what was causing the inconsistent tone? But my personal preference for physical and dramatic rebellion aside, all forms of rebellion however subtle, are valid.

Because some people would rather deny a living being in front of them than admit they are wrong.
