A pleasure to meet you, and I'd be more than amenable to that! I'm somewhat ecstatic, to be honest. I have lived all my life in the Heaven's Seat surrounded by our way of structuring and categorizing the universe. So it's fascinating to see other divine beings seemingly apart from our system. Even our counterparts in the Daevaloka with Indra are part of the ceaseless cycle of Samsara with much terminology in common. In different languages, mind, but in common nonetheless.

That's a very inspired and efficient use of your tentacles, I must add. It has an aesthetic charm to it, as well.

Why thank you. -she smiles, her teeth slightly less sharp than usual- Some believe Those Above are also deities, but the truth is beyond even my know. I suppose I should start there- they created the world and live somewhere beyond its atmosphere, but they don't interact with it directly. Everything is done through the Constructs, who keep the mortal dealings organized. They build, destroy, alter continents and climates and not even we gods can stop them. Then there's spirits. There's a force called Color of which there are seven: Silver, Crimson, Amber, Azure, Violet, Emerald, and Gold. They represent nebulous concepts, like righteousness or sorrow, and sometimes a Color or two will concentrate in an area and become a Spirit. Depending on where or on what it formed depends on what kind- there are spirits of air, volcanoes, of betrayal and war. The latter ones are more complicated, driven by the Color they're made of and more generally influenced by their forming factors. Gods are smarter, stronger Spirits who can influence things on a grand scale. With the exception of my family only mortals can hold more than a few Colors, and actually carry all of them in their soul, though it's dominated by only a few. Destroying a mortal's ability to hold a Color would deprive them of the concepts it represents, and eventually kill them... though indirectly. A human deprived of Gold, for instance, would no longer understand the concept of trust and eventually either their paranoia or unintentional deceitfulness would get them killed.

Ah? You don't classify deities based on the nature of their souls then? That is how it for us. Deity, Shen, is simply an umbrella term for those beings of Ascended Hun or Po. Of which we have two subgroups and two wildcards. There are the Deities of Intellect, the Hun, which are Tianshen, such as myself or gods proper, the Beasts, and the Asura. Then there are the Deities of Instinct, the Po, which are just the Devils, really. Some might argue for ghosts to receive consideration but they lack sapience, and possibly even sentience. Sapience is a must for a deity. Our two wild cards meanwhile are mortals who ascended via conduct or alchemy, the Bodhis and the Xian. There isn't really a good "English" word for the Pu Sa, but the Xian tend to be called Immortals.

The Celestial Seat meanwhile sits at the peak of Sumeru. At the peak of Heaven rests the Jade Palace and the Jade Emperor and Empress and their Imperial Courts. Beneath the Imperial Court are the Offices Armanents, Bonds, Breaths, Dances, Dawns, Deaths, Doors, Flames, Grounds, Inspirations, Mountains, Prayers, Rages, Seeds, Shadows, Spaces, Thunders, Waters, Winds, and Years. The Offices are then further divided into particular ministries that deal with certain specific aspects of the Office. We've ministries for social workers and ministries for marital affairs in Office Bonds, for example. In theory we have a department and individual deity for every possible physical, metaphysical, and social matter that could even hope to crop up in the universe. Not a single human friendship goes by without our guidance.

 

My little friend here would be a Beast, obviously. A Huli Jing of Clan Faithful Fangs, to be precise.

Wonderful. I love the little explicit clarification of intent there, very nice touch. Lacking in subtlety, sadly, but they can't all be perfect.
