Sometimes the killing is only right in certain situations, and there are a bunch of rules dictating when it's okay. Even a society where killing is a common 'right' answer tends to have designated acceptable targets-- strangers, lower classes, people who are different, on and on and on. A society where killing was the 'right' answer to everything does tend to become very small, though, thus the tendency to more strictly regulate it.

 

Can I eat trolls, if they're meat?

 

If you can eat meat safely, and have access to a troll who is either incapable of or unwilling to fight back, yes, you can theoretically eat trolls.
