Most people who share an altmode look at least a little alike and if you're an MTO the likelihood that everyone in your batch looks exactly identical is big. Does that start ringing a bell?

 

For the record: a lot of constructed mechs, original flavor or warborn MTO, were produced to identical specifications, color and all. There... were, probably still are, issues with treating everyone from the same 'print run' as interchangeable copies of each other. Those who remember that can get a little touchy about '[x group sharing one or more characteristics] are all the same person and knowing one means you know them all.'

Yes, because emotional reactions are always perfectly logical and Scanner is an exemplar of mental health.
