Some woods-witches don't get to be witches. They become Forest Brides instead. Forest mothers eventually. Humans can't live in the Forest, beyond the border.

Moira, sapient planets actively hostile are easy. You know what you're at with them. They want to kill you, and you don't want them to kill you. That's easy.
With people, you mostly don't know what you're at with unless you get to know them better. They might like you like friends, or hate your guts, or respect the hell out of you and don't think they're good -- or bad -- enough, or fallen in love or hate at first sight, or are slowly developing something. One could ask, but sometimes even they don't know.
Of course it's confusing.
