Your parents get them before you're born! Once you're confirmed as conceived your parents can go in and get stuff tailored. The basic stuff is checking for genetic disorders like that shit that turns your muscles to bone- stuff that will either kill you or make your life suck forever. And is easy to flag, too. Some stuff shows up in lots of genes so you can't pin it down well enough to make it fuck off. Next is your richbitch frankenbaby shit; making sure the kid has the eye color you want and grows up pretty.

My parents didn't care much for that. I got a bunch of slightly experimental mods. I've got some kinda chemical receptors in my fingers? It's not quite smell, but it's like that. Some other stuff I don't remember 'cause it wasn't for me. There were two of us, originally. I ate my twin.
