karkat is totally the leader type though kanaya had to promise a big snake lady he could still do the leader thing even if he thinks hes shit at basically everything
hes really good at a lot of things but especially that

Not under fire either which is the more pressing concern. Fires can be put out without a lot of murder or pursuers necessary.

 

I mean, depending what kind of engines you're running "under fire" and "on fire" may as well be the same thing.

...Captain. You have an entire engineering department. You have at least one other supposedly-competent co-captain. It's not critical. Someone'll wake you up if something goes to slag.

 

Okay but those are also all doing critical things. And it just occured to me.

 

Engineering has to live on your ship too. I'm sure they've got "engine maintenance" on their list of critical things, engines are important. Trust your subordinates to do their jobs.
