Shitposting Rave OOC Content Controversy

Wait I think I realized a thing with my issue I wasn't able to word earlier. I find it crossing a line when we stop acting appropriately to the characters involved and instead are using our own personal morals to attempt to keep someone entirely silent as a particular character. So basically the clear line between character and person has been breached entirely and a moral crusade has begun. I've seen this happen with Amporas in the past, and it's a behavior that bothers me a lot. Not here. Just elsewhere I've seen it occur.

 

Thank you for having the mis around for that purpose. That is a very nice thing. I also like the last bit, assuming I am understanding it right. Which is that, so long as the characters aren't being awful just that minute that the player of the villain or asshole in question be allowed the breathing room to interact in a friendly, calm manner with others. Am I getting that right? I think this plays into part of what I am attempting to get at with MORAL CRUSADE worries.

 

Just to clarify because I'm having trouble parsing that sentence, you're saying you believe dead dove content is always NSFW, correct?

As far as my personal standards go, I'd prefer to have references to sexual assault spoilered if it's brought up in more detail than "this happened", but that seems to mostly happen here anyway. I'd also like things dealing with addiction to be spoilered, but that's more of a personal trigger than an absolute moral standard. I'd also be fine with someone pinging me in the ooc thread so I can ignore their character if that's a major part of the character. For me personally, it's often easier to ignore a character who I find often brings up things I find unsettling, but I'm trigger happy with ignore anyway, so I realize that won't work for everyone.

The thing that bothered me the most about honktimus prime was that a) the suffering was so detailed and b) when asked ooc if characters would be able to help, the response was that the only solution was death. It was ultimately ipuntya's decision, but it made me feel very helpless ooc as well as ic. That description of pain is what pushed it from "violence" to "torture", imo.

So, tl;dr, things I would like spoiled if they come up: sexual assault references, gore or dismemberment, graphic animal death, torture, addiction. I personally feel like those subjects push the line past "appropriate for younger teens", and I'd prefer not to see them. Things I'm okay with spoilering: references to genitals. Sex I'll do fade to blacks with as always.

 

Mentioning cruelty is fine but jfc do not make me watch torture porn.

Mr Holloway has not been a problem in this regard nor do I expect him to be.

 

You're parsing it correctly, yes. While something like, I dunno, Akira's ending isn't explicit sex I do feel that it's nsfw because I just. Just really. Jesus fuck. Someone explodes painfully into weird goopy bits, a woman is crushed to death like a grape, another man is almost killed in the same fashion, and overall everyone is just in huge and horrible amounts of pain. It's weird and distressing, and I fucking love it but I don't think that sort of shit is ok to just drop in on people. Which I guess might not actually qualify as dead dove, but if Akira's ending is something I don't think is sfw then something does qualify as it definitely isn't ok.

 

@Aondeug I have not had a problem with your Greshan besides the slight feeling of nausea the sight of his name causes me. :)

I'm not sure what you mean by do not try to silence people but I do play characters who will refuse to interact with people whom they cannot stand. Especially when it's the only defence they have.

 

Again, I'm really not sure how to better describe it. But just. I've seen some really shit things with how people who've played villains elsewhere have been treated. The worst cases moving absolutely out of character instead of just acting ooc as a character. And it was bad.

Also it is nice to have that clarification regarding how you feel about him. I'm happy to know that I've not gone too far with him because I do actually worry about that!

Another example of a thing: Mettaton showed up and Clover was arguing at him. Which was based in undertale canon and she had every right to do so, but I was not feeling up to conflict just then, so I told Petra so privately and she agreed to have Clover ignore MTT.
That is something I still want to be possible if the character in question isn´t doing something terrible right that moment.

 

Re: addiction: do you consider any reference to recreational drug use a reference to addiction? A lot of people from the WT-verse use psychedelics but they are not addicts.

I do not think something like honktimus prime is okay to inflict on other people without their advance informed consent ever. This is not your personal fanfic that you can plaster warnings on and say 'don't like don't read', this is a game you are playing with OTHER PEOPLE who have agreed to play it with you.

 

I don´t think there´s ever anything wrong with a character refusing to interact with another.

 

Ok. That is good to know that I got that right then. Then yeah that would be a thing I'd like to have be possible. Because like you said the player might not always be up to the conflict just then.

As far as not interacting with someone that the character absolutely cannot stand that's also fine with me.

 

Greshan is fine partially bc he's a coat and partially bc he's constantly getting dunked on. :P

No, I personally am fine with recreational drug use - one of my characters, @Geargrind, accidentally ate an edible in the rave, actually. I just have triggers wrt the issues that tend to go along with addiction, like people that enable or the collateral damage to family and friends that often happens with addiction issues. None of the drug references with WT characters have ever bothered me.

OK, so basically the only WT characters you'd have trouble with are Getheny and Mindala and they are trying to fix the shit they did. :)

Yes I am aware of that. I'm not saying that it is a problem that has happened here. Just that is a problem I worry about occurring.

 

OK, because basically my POV characters' morality will differ on many things but torture isn't going to be one that any of them are ever fine with :)

For instance: I have characters that are all over the place with regard to older-minor/adult interactions because of the different times and cultures they come from, and that has caused tension in WT because with respect to that issue the 1960s* might as well be a foreign country, but they're only all over the place on that topic as long as everyone concerned is having fun. Because none of my POV characters will ever be okay with forced sex of any kind.

*young people in the 1960s bitterly resented being told they were not allowed adult privileges when they were being sent off to war; and 'statutory' laws were primarily used by parents to discourage relationships they disapproved of rather than because people were actually being hurt, and in point of fact you could marry at 15 in many many places with parental permission, it was definitely to protect the power of parents and not kids that these laws were enforced.

 

That's still not the problem. There hasn't been a problem. The problem is something else entirely that hasn't happened yet and I am worried about it.

 

I'm always okay with "I don't feel like rping a fight right now because I often feel that way". Just, yah, not when you're actually harassing someone :)
