Not in the creepy eugenics way--he was absolutely fine with Valiska not wanting to have their kits genetically engineered once Sev determined that it would be safe not to--but. He's still the dopey kid who loves aliens and is convinced that science can solve everything. After all, it was when he stopped doing real science (and started mucking around with a demon) that he got in real trouble.

Speaking of Lumi, should I add a spoilered translation as to what she's trying to express with her poems? I try to keep her as straightforward as possible, but with the rhyming it sometimes slips into obtuse.

 

I don't have any trouble understanding her. I don't think he will argue with her because he's not gonna change her mind either, but he will probably say something after I've slept. Throw pillows if you see me during the next 5 hours. ;)

I´m sorry to rain on anyone parade but I´m a little err. Uncomfortable with the idea of turning a real person into a RP character. I know I would be very not ok with anyone RPing me without asking me, and Ray is a dillweed but he´s still a person.

 

Seconding @littlemissCodeless! Don't misunderstand me - this is hilarious - but he's a real person.

I gotta third @littlemissCodeless because this is funny as shit but I feel like it's crossing a line. I've been guilty of naming villains after people I really don't like, but I would never RP them or write characters that were supposed to be the actual person.

I have had people parody RP me online. I like to think I wouldn't have been so steamed if the portrayal had been even close to being accurate, but... I expect it would have been uncomfortable even if had been witty and anything about the character had been recognizable as me other than "fat Jewish queer girl who really likes cats and pink".

 

I need to play her more sometime. Though I've been weirdly eh about rp a bit lately. Probably because school is coming up and I'm flipping my shit.

 

I'd be okay with like, Steven Colbert's TV persona, since that's a deliberate character rather than the actual person. But not celebrities or neighbors or particularly unliked internet denizens.

But if there's something about a person that really pings you, do what some authors do! Take that part of the person and build an OC around them.

Eta... admittedly, in the case of Ray and Cronus, Ray is an excellent reference/inspiration for Cronus characterization. The neck romancer is thoroughly represented already.

I am of the opinion that Condie hasn't met an equal opponent yet, particularly not one with forewarning and psionics, but...the Pennarine fleet is certainly much smaller, which is why Tainell is trying to make alliances. And why the Pineses want to go in the back door so she can't control her fleet.

 

@cryptoThelematrix yeah, you're prolly right! condy's not dumb, and she's likely in it as much for unused resources to fuel her armies as anything, so i think going after less-developed civilizations would make sense on multiple levels? don't quote me tho. (i kinda hc her as not being super into preserving the planets she takes over? if they've got resources, bleed them dry and move on. if they have other stuff, like lots of water or w/e, turn them into a resort planet for her seadweller generals to go to when they're not on campaign to keep them complacent, yada yada yada. mituna likes valiska and ford and sev, but he doesn't actually expect them to be able to do anything against sea hitler, because he's never seen anyone fight her and win, and a lot of condy's control over him stems from that. (you cannot fight her, you will not win, she's a force of nature, same as the tide or a hurricane or what have you, etc.)

I'd put her between 37-45 were she human, and she might look older still from the stress of having been helmed for almost her entire adult life
