Also for clarification: Jack knows he's an AI, but he doesn't really think about it cause it makes him think the whole "I'm not the real Jack" so he's never going to acknowledge the fact that he's an AI (at least how im playing him atm. i dont think its too far of a stretch since how he reacts to other things that make him Feel)

 

church was talking about himself and what jack said next made church think jack was just excited about the rave's possibilities, so church is currently assuming that jack being an ai is just an obvious, accepted, chill thing and hasn't felt the need to bring it up. he has absolutely no idea about jack's existential crisis right now, and even less of an idea that he's contributing to it.

Meanwhile Lissa is quite perplexed because she agreed to help Church sort things out after Wrench left or their party was over (which hasn't even happened yet) and he doesn't seem to be paying as much attention to her as he is to the Invisible Source Of What She Is Sure Is Extremely Bad Advice.

 

well, one: jack is saying stuff much more frequently.

and two: church is not actually taking any of the advice, despite what ford and valiska think.

and finally three: having jack on mute means that the reverses don't even fully understand the conversation that church is having with jack. which means church now is seriously doubting reverse ford's listening skills.

 

Question: Is @Lucio a Transformer? if so, the conversation with may have gone differently.

I cannot tell from the avatar, and I do not know what Lissa is seeing when she talks to people whose avatars are more evocative than representational. I'm pretty visually oriented and have a hard time not thinking that REAL people look like their avatars except in cases when their avatars are obviously not human people (for instance, I am not a baby thylacine, but this art was drawn for me and does kinda sorta represent me on the inside somehow).

 

hahah well that's been explained now, and Valiska's not even here :p (note, I am not mad at you, I am teasing) also, thinking that he's paying more attention to Jack doesn't actually mean they think he's taking Jack's advice. They're not assuming Church is THAT axe crazy.

Does anyone really think Jack and Valiska need to meet? If so, too bad. I don't, because she lives in my head and I have to listen to her even if nobody else does :p

He's from Overwatch, actually! So Lissa's response is pretty fair, all things considered.

Fwiw, it's probably never going to come up in text other than oblique references (and I don't mind Lissa defending her word choice, she's got every right!) but part of why Burlesque is so adamant about this is because he was on circuit boosters back when he lived on the streets of Dead End as a buymech. He's seen a lot of friends die to them, and recognizes that he probably would have died to them too had the whole war thing not kicked off and his supply been cut off when he evacuated with his fleet.

It doesn't help that transformers don't really have positive recreational drugs-- pretty much all of the ones we see on screen are about as brutal as meth and herione, with a couple exceptions for a smokable antipsychotic and then the robot equivalent of alcohol. (Actually, transformers don't really have much in the way of ingestible medication at all, so I think that's another issue-- when you don't really have aspirin, it's hard to talk about the value of medicinal drugs as a jumping off point for the recreational ones.)

church treats ford and lissa as an unit 'cause they have a habit of replying for each other - or, at least, it looks that way to him. like, ford sometimes takes up lissa's conversational track right where it was left after she finished talking to church, and vice-versa. so it ends up appearing to him like they are often each other's spokespeople or the spokespeople for FordLissa as a fusionish unit (like they are basically trying to be garnet without actually being a fusion, though that's not how he's putting it in his head).

 

Let's face it, Lissa's a hippie. :) Rev Ford still sorta is too, for all his Chaos Warlock Warlord schtick that keeps people from fucking with him back on Earth.

And yeah, if he told her that (not that he should or would) she'd be like yeah that really sucks I'm sorry about that, on the other hand...drugs really helped me get over my conditioning, as much as anything could.

I may have been a little confused because I see you guys in here taking engex all the time and it is totally a drug, like alcohol, but of course it's socially sanctioned (also like alcohol) and Burlesque's demeanour doesn't lend itself to my expecting a DARE talk, but all is well here in IRL-land.

 

Yeah I can see that, but to them they're just participating equally in a conversation. :) And honestly they don't have a problem with it until they get jumped on in the defence of Jack of all people LOL 5 ever.

Part of this is because Ford can be very abrasive and Lissa knows sometimes he needs social skills help and part of this is because Lissa can be kind of ditzy and hard to follow and sometimes Ford can break Lissa-logic down into Earth-logic, but most of the time it's just because they are them.

 

church was partly defending jack and partly defending himself. 'cause he thought that ford and lissa both thought he was an easily influenceable idiot, and that ford and lissa both thought the conversation was jack was just jack talking about how life and love sucked. and he was very offended by all of that.

that makes sense. :D there's nothing wrong with it but in the headspace i and/or church are in right now, they end up blurring together - which is kinda weird, since i don't think norm ever had this much trouble with them or their counterparts.
