OK, well, I'm sorry about that!!!

I worry that people think I get mad over people not liking stuff my characters do and I don't, I'm not mad about that except when the assumption is made that I'm the one being the asshat on purpose, and those few times I got triggered which hasn't happened in ages. It's okay to ask if the problem is me, like if all my characters are being unusually douchey. I'm super distracted today, but I think it's just her. And I don't always know WHY my characters do things that make me sit back and go "why did you do that".

I think Alex may be having a hard time with the concept that not everyone already knows the stuff she knows, because she knows she doesn't even know that much and this is stuff that everyone in her world knows unless they live under a rock. There is no way she would know the name Jason Todd, but everyone knows who Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson are. I also know she's being kind of dickish generally, for instance teasing Lissa about Wrench, because she's in a terrible frame of mind right now.

I have been watching Alex and Mason and I think that Alex and Mason have switched some personality traits in the reversal, because she can be much more bitter and assholish than Mason just like Dipper can be much more bitter and assholish than Mabel (though when Mabel fucks up she really does fuck up), whereas Mason has Dipper's interests but Mabel's problem of having his head in the clouds.

 

That's fine. I'm not having the least bit of trouble believing that the characters' reactions are appropriate for their personalities. Really I'm not. No need to give me references unless you want to. But even if I knew all those references, she doesn't.

She would understand the reaction, probably (I mean god help you if you fuck with Stan) but I think on some level she thinks that everyone already knows who these people are. Because her involvement with the comic book fandom is movies and TV and sporadic at best, and she's one of those people who's like, seriously, a pair of glasses and a change of clothes can hide that you're Superman?

 

I'm not like mad or anything, I just wouldn't have a good time playing any of the top three most likely reactions Jason would have to the identities of people associated with him revealed (namely, trying to shoot Alex, planning an explosion, or a paranoia spiral about the rave actually being a supervillain trap to extract information from him) and I didn't think anyone else would either. Red Hood is a character I brought into the rave knowing I'd have to put brakes on to keep him rave-safe and I'm cool with that, I'm just letting y'all know why he may act like that completely didn't happen unless I can come up with something still ic but less unfun to play with.

 

OK great! But if he does shoot Alex, she's not gonna die, and neither am I, jsyk. It might still upset other people, and if it isn't fun for you, we shouldn't do it even spoilered. I just want you to know that. Jason was never going to like her anyway, she's obviously bourgeois and from a family that's probably kinda criminal by his lights.

Please do not try to tell Dick Damian wouldn't somehow cause devastation in the rave. Trauma headfucked murder boy who tries his best is not rave safe, especially because every single one of the pineses would piss him the fuck off. I dunno why rev-ford thinks he knows better somehow especially since he doesn't actually know Damian at all, but like physical violence is not the only damage someone can inflict.

The problem with Rev Ford is that he and Dick both appear to think they're the smartest guys in the room and that is IC for both of them. I'm willing to have them disengage, but his point was about rave magic, not Damian. Bats said they were lucky that Damian wasn't there because he would beat people up. Ford said you can't do that here. Bats replied to it as though it was specifically about Damian, but it's about the rave on Ford's end. Of course Ford of all people knows you can hurt people non physically.

But now they are in a dick measuring contest because they're talking right past each other.

Telling me about their canon doesn't change what my characters know. This is a culture clash.

Ford is not the only person who is annoyed by Batman (edited: and other DC characters) insisting that he can handle anything in any universe, Karkat and Jordi have also been expressing some level of discomfort with it trying to tell him to knock it off

I know he probably won't stop doing this, so I will have someone distract Ford.

Dick doesn't assume he is the smartest person in the room. He's actually very aware he isn't the smartest of Bruce's kids (c':)
Tbqh he's mostly currently connecting the dots on the Pines being literal reality bending supervillains tbh and he's trying to lay a verbal trap and stall for time until Damian or Bruce can break him and Jason out.
This is kind of what happens when you trip some of the most paranoid characters in comics history into full on defense mode. Please just accept that your charcters are just making it worse right now.

 

I understand that my characters are upsetting your character. I understand that this has progressed to a point where you'd like it to stop. I'm trying to figure out what to do about it while staying IC and not acting on player knowledge. If you'd like to help me figure that out, I'll work with you. I don't want this to be unfun for you.

This is what I was planning to post after your last response (I have been on my phone most of today). Tell me if it's OK.

Ford sighs heavily. "You don't know me and I don't know you. I believe that everything you say about your experiences is true. I believe that your friend can cause non-physical damage, because I can and so can most of my adversaries. I don't think you're lying."

He takes a deep breath. "What I'm trying to tell me is that we're both very well-qualified in our own realms and I'd like you to acknowledge that just like you undoubtedly know many things that I don't know, it's entirely possible that I might know a lot of things that you don't know, because we have different experiences and have been in different places. If you don't want to trust me, that's fine. I'm paranoid, too. Make all the assumptions you want about my character, but I've seen things you haven't, just like you've seen things that I haven't."
