Vector is basically here in his downtime and needs a vent for his chronic meddling now that he's not allowed to play with mortals in his home universe :P

I was going to drop the conversation thread anyways
but I'd like you to consider that this being the shitposting rave you don't actually have to bother about player knowledge or staying IC, that's the entire point.
The fact that I often drop bits of canon in here for illustration is mostly because tbh the Batfam is an old reoccuring special interest of mine and I fell back down the hole *hard* so I'm getting my sperg all over the ooc thread. It's not so much meant as "see I'm most right about interpretation of canon" (this is literally impossible in comics fandoms anyways) but more like a pet who brings your random shit they found that was interesting to them.
The thing that is most offputting about this character conflict was honestly that at any given point in time you maintain like four characters in the rave all of whom read as potential hostiles to a vigilante and all of hom support eachother and swap in and out of conversations with my one character who has a single guy as potential backup, who is actually sort of one of his villains in a good chunk of continuities. So yeah, the likelihood of Dick calming down anytime soon was basically nonexistant.
I mean at this point Dick wouldn't let Damian do a stab because he's trying to teach his brother-son better :P

For the refrance: the Transformers comics have, at various points over their lengthy lifespan, crossed over with Marvel comics multiple times (most recently with New Avengers in 2007). They are by and large Absolute Disasters, because Hasbro doesn't know how to handle crossovers.
There has been one (1) attempt at a DC crossover comic, and it got scrapped in favor of a total DC relaunch :P

Well, thanks anyway! I don't care if Batman thinks Ford and his family are interdimensional reality-warping supervillains, that's perfectly fine, but I care if Ivy's upset.

I completely understand the numbers thing and I apologise for that. That's how I felt with all the Cronii and I'll try to look out for that.

If you could tell me "this interaction is bothering me as a player" flat out and explicitly, we'd get to the point where we can fix things faster. I understand "this is bothering me" very well since it's happened to me a lot in the rave. "My character is upset" is not necessarily a problem because you could just be asking if I'm okay with having an argument IC. Explanations of character motivations and canons always feels like either an invitation to discuss all sides of those, or like someone's getting mad at me because my characters don't know stuff that maybe I don't know either.

"I am upset" is always a problem.

That said, I play characters in the SPR with the express purpose of figuring out who they are and what they know, and getting used to being in their heads, and learning how to play them. If I don't try and come up with a consistent characterisation and stick to it, I won't be able to play them well where they belong. It's also uncomfortable for me to be expected to play with player knowledge because I don't actually know most of the canons in here, and having people assume that I do or should is kind of offputting on my end. I actually enjoy not knowing who a lot of these people are; it allows me to figure out how my characters react to people without my own feelings about various characters getting in the way.

Re-reading this I'm laughing my ass off because all I can think of is the insurance commercials where Ford's voice actor says "We know a thing or two, because we've seen a thing or two."

I'm mostly frustrated because of a million tiny things none of which are actually a problem on their own. It's the sum of their parts that currently is a massive annoyance.

okay so like things that have pissed me off recently from your characters?
    • they act incredibly familiar with other characters to a level that your or their knowledge doesn't support. Like I'm sorry you can't both say "I don't know anything about the canon" and correctly guess someone's secret identity and then act surprised that it starts a fit. But we've been over this
    • You have repeatedly godmodded explanations for absences of other people's characters. This is something we've been over before too, the rave isn't actually that temporally or spatially stable, and it's also super bad form to call attention to someone's absence in the literally lowest commitment rp thread where being absent doesn't actually have ANY consequences.
    • Your characters are continually lecturing people both on ethics and spacetime/dimensional stuff and literally phrasing all of it like it's a canon exposition dump and like I know this is just how Ford is but for god's sake it gets incredibly annoying and sometimes I wonder if you actually remember that you and your characters don't make the rules for how the rave actually works.
    • Completely disproprotionate responses to (imaginary) furniture being destroyed, including a big ass moral lecture to a character you don't actually know at all on behalf of another character you don't actually know.

Ok, I´ve had some time to try and cool down and I´m going to try again. What I meant is that Lissa trying to impose her house rules on the rave and especially on my characters makes me OOC uncomfortable. Yes even if she can´t enforce them.
You are in control of your characters, that is why I am talking to you. I am saying that something your character does IC is making me OOC uncomfortable.

Another part is that Lissa and her family putting all the blame on Connor, when he was being needled by jordi into lashing out, hits some rather nasty triggers of mine. (No violence is not the solution but Connor is not ok. PR has also confirmed that Jordi was definitely needling Connor for a reaction)
Also making it suddenly a huge thing that he tried to hit Jordi and hit the bar, an inanimate object, when characters have had much worse fights in the rave. (I promise you Megatronus and Mala playfighting would have hurt a lot more people than Connors punching the bar. And was equally likely to which is to say not at all)

Vector's being an obtuse self-referential Space player again :P Transformers universes are named in a [Cluster/general continuity] [individual universe/print run] [specific continuity family] scheme. Primax 1005.(##) Gamma is the designation for the current IDW run, the main universe in it being 1005.19. (For those following along at home with robot comics, we haven't had an Ask Vector Prime event since the functionist universe was created so there's no confirmation, but it would likely be something like Primax 1005.20 or .22 Gamma-- relatively close to mainline MTMTE/exRiD.)

stealth edit to avoid clogging thread with nerdery: the DT universe has been arbitrarily declared Primax 1005.24 Gamma, because I needed a number relatively close to the mainline comics for Vector to label himself with :P

I am sorry that I have upset you and I'll try to do less of it. Thank you for telling me. I do have responses to some of these points. What matters is that I'm upsetting you, but I also want to say where I am coming from with regards to some of it.

    • The only people whose absences I've mentioned are people that my characters were literally in the middle of a conversation and/or in close physical contact with. But that hasn't happened with any of your characters nor will it. I know your boundaries.

    • I do actually know how the rave works. Honestly.

    • The bar thing was initially played for laughs. It got weird. I never intended it to go where it did, I thought Alexandria would have a huge whine about it and everyone would laugh about Gwen and Mason's predicament.

    • Everyone who has ever seen Batman on TV knows that Dick Grayson was his ward and the logical person to have been the next Batman given the history Dick gave her. That doesn't mean she knows his entire canon or his personality in a specific run.

I am sorry that I have upset you.

May I come clean about things that have been annoying me, but not upsetting me to the point where I felt I needed to say anything?

    • I really wish you'd stop getting annoyed pre-emptively because of interactions between me and other players and assuming that they are not okay with something because you wouldn't be okay with it. If I'm meant to assume that Lissa has been dropped on the floor without any warning when she was in someone's arms (she is too short to hang off Wrench's neck without being off balance) I will do so, but I'd like to hear if @KingStarscream has a problem with her just saying "oh, you're back!" and not just falling on the floor or assuming Wrench never let go of her because he wasn't there to say he did.

    • I really wish people would stop asking me if I know how the rave works because I'm playing a blowhard interdimensional scientist. If it's annoying you, just ask me to give it a rest for a while. Ironically, I was just thinking that Batman makes me feel the way Ford must make some other people feel, because he's so sure (or at least seems to be--no need to tell me if this is actually true) that he knows how the entire multiverse works. But I don't complain about it because I know you know how the rave works. It's just Batman being Batman.

    • Just tell me when you're upset. You do this thing where you tell me that I don't have to be IC or not use player knowledge, but you're upset because your character is being IC. If something that is going on bothers you, tell me it bothers you and we can find a way out of it or decide it never happened. I am so sick of being told that I don't have to be IC when everyone else is being IC and the problem is that these characters just don't get along together and it's annoying players. We can get help from each other and other players to make it stop if we speak up about it.

I'm sorry I triggered you. If you have a problem, please just say that it's you. I can't figure that out from context sometimes.

Everyone says "don't confuse IC/OOC" and ironically I get in the most trouble when I'm trying to do exactly that thing. I don't assume that you're upset if your character is.

I'd just like to say that this whole house rules argument is really confusing to me because Gwen was the only one who even mentioned them. Lissa was just cheesed because everyone was having a good time and people had brought in drinks and food and were having a party and somebody threw a punch in the middle of the party and suddenly the party was over. She said nothing about house rules, she said that she would like powerful people to restrain themselves. I'm sorry about the triggering part, but I couldn't possibly have known about it in advance.

The bar thing was intended to be funny and then suddenly it wasn't because you were triggered. I'm sorry about that but I also didn't know it would happen that way. I thought we'd all have a laugh about Gwendolyn and Mason getting a Teenagers from Outer Space Makeoutus Interruptus Classic.

unrelated to the current discussion, but do let me know if my slow-motion self-rp gets to be annoying! it's fun for me but it is, also, slow-motion self-rp, so i'm cool with scooching it or spoiling it or what have you should the need arise

Ok there was a miscommunication there, I was trying to communicate that I was upset. No you couldn´t have known about it in advance, I dont expect you to.
As for Lissa, I already mentioned why her reaction bothered me, but also yeah sorry I did roll that into house rules. So explicitely: Lissa trying to impose authority over my characters bothers me. This goes for any character, ever, unless this was negotiated with me OOC. Lissa doing the mom voice counts as trying to impose authority in my book. Again, her ability to enforce that or lack thereof is completely irrelevant to it bothering me. Please try not to do that in the future.

I mean you asked what annoyed me that you did not what annoyed me that you did specifically with my characters

Also what I said was an example and it wasn't the only example. And I also do not just mean "overly familiar" in the sense of "overly familiar with someone's canon" I mean "your characters sometimes act like they are other people's characters' best friends after exchanging four sentences."

The problem with telling you if I'm upset or not is that "upset" is vastly different from "mildly peeved" and to be honest the apology storm is doing more to upgrade from "mildly peeved" to "upset" than anything your characters have done.
Also frankly if you think Dick Grayson as I play him is particularly confident or know-it-all then you have never interacted with a hard portrayal of Batman before, because boy this is Dick Grayson at a very vulnerable and insecure point in his life. Like I'm... honestly not sure how that doesn't translate.

    @Codeless:

Lissa's a really bossy person and I might just keep her away from your characters (with your cooperation, like don't bring her into anything) if you really feel that it will be too upsetting for any character you have to just say to her "don't tell me what to do!" because I'm afraid she'll do something else that will set you off without me even realising it. (If your character were ever to actually say that, she'd drop it. She knows the limits of her power.) I think you have the same problem with Valiska too, and they're clones of each other from different universes.

    @IvyLB:

OK, no more apologies. I'm not trying to wind you up. You know you have the right to feel however you feel about my interactions with other people and other people's characters. It's just that unless you know something I'm doing is upsetting someone else, I don't understand why you care about it if you're not involved. You don't even know whether me and the other person have talked about it between ourselves or not. (We haven't recently, but @KingStarscream and I have had private conversations about Lissa and Wrench in the past.) Fair?

Please stop commenting about how ignorant I am regarding Batman because I totally agree with you that I am ignorant about Batman beyond Gotham, some movies, some 1980s comics and the dumb 1960s TV show I watched when I was a kid. I don't play in supers games online so I don't interact with Batman a lot, no argument there. But it's like if I was playing Bren Cameron and I kept going on about how you don't understand Bren Cameron and you must have never seen someone play him before when your character came into conflict with him, when in reality I don't know if you've even read the Foreigner series.

It´s probably best if you did because no, it´s not actually like that but clarifying the exact limits of what upsets me would just be exausting and probably upsetting for both of us.
