Yeah, I'm thinking the account in question posting under spoilers, and/or people with brainhurty ignoring the account in question, are the best solutions here. I really, really want make it as easy as possible for people to feel free to do things---and for us to find ways to do them in ways that don't hurt others.

Spoiler: eta what the refrance

within the Gentleman Bastard Sequence, there exists a guild of incredibly powerful mages; anyone who shows magical potential has to be trained by them or be killed. Their introduction/backstory is "we wiped out the capital of the Fantasy Roman empire in a single night". Basically, do not fuck with bondsmagi.

Everyone in this universe has a "red name"; as Onyx explained IC, this is the first name someone recognizes as themself and is usually (but not always!) the name one's parents give them. If a bondsmage knows your real name, you're fucked; they could ostensibly kill you outright, but if you've managed to piss off a bondsmagi they're more likely to mind-control you into killing everyone you ever cared about and then kill you.

Bondsmagi, knowing just how powerful red names are, take on "grey names" as soon as they interact with the outside world; mage parents will introduce their babies by a grey name because this is Fantasy Politics and everyone's a potential enemy, and the kid (if they prove magical) will acquire more grey names as they age; each bondsmage takes on a title when they earn their way to basically journeyman status. Normal aliases work as grey names too, which should prove useful for our conman main characters. (Because these are novels, it doesn't really help them :P)

Critical plot points in books 1 and 3 of the Sequence hinge on the fact that one of our main characters doesn't even remember his own red name; his earliest memories from (questionable) age 5 or 6 are of deciding he likes a name on a sign and that's His Name now, and his surname is built from Fantasy Latin.

Spoiler: Book 3 plot twist

The reason he doesn't remember his red name is that he is (probably) a transplanted soul in a new body; a certain bondsmage was experimenting with immortality, and may or may not have hecked up.

norm is referring to how the last person to own him in the tango continuity was @Nat Richards and how before that he was owned by chester mcbadbat, the mayor, denzel crocker, timmy turner and birkenbake - none of which who are dead.

Honestly? Probably. She can see the directly-descended-from-the-gods and the worshipped part from her Sight, and that his soul will be none of her business and isn't scheduled to go out in the near future from her Lantern. Apart from that, she sees a couple of things that fall under "weird gifts".
