i like this thread! here are ideas i had for a rupphire high fantasy au. idk if i will actually get around to writing it because every time i try something feels off. but it gives me so many warm fuzzies that i can't just abandon it outright. Spoiler Ruby in the military, which bounces around from location to location a lot believes the indoctrination that her death is inevitable, but that there are good ways to die and she does not have another purposes super brash and crude, does not know quite when to stop. Is a bit on the shit list because she has been brash in front of the wrong people, speaks her opinions a little too much (that is to say, at all, even when they’re right). This is why she’s punished by just escorting around a Sapphire to lessons, instead of getting her hands dirty on the battlefield Sapphire Has been isolated most of her life. Reads books and talks to a tutor for education and manners, but very stiff and repressed But actually she’s started saying and thinking things that have pegged her as a potential dissident, so much that ruby is assigned to watch over her Has been made to study war strategies over the years. Is a tactical master but fully indoctrinated that she only can offer guidance, and not change anything herself. Changing the plan has not occurred to her, even if the plan is really awful. this is reinforced by the fact that she got herself into this shit by kinda sorta vaguely skirting around "hey this plan is stupid reconsider?" She's basically ready to go off but needs a catalyst Sapphire finds ruby fascinating and vice versa. ‘dislike at first sight -> luv at second’ bc their traits are so different and they are separately told to value the things they are, so they see differences as weaknesses until they see firsthand how beneficial/useful/neato their differences are. which further sows the seed for dissent Society is very similar. People are cogs in the greater machine. Conquest is main goal. Lack of service = execution. But, for early cases of potential dissidence, mind games are employed. Also, the society is not very good about people stuff, don’t realize that putting two dissidents together might cause trouble (seems like trouble, how does this make sense? This could be the mistake when they learn this, but idk … something else might be better… maybe Ruby should be super rules-y, or Sapphire should be. Probably Sapphire, also more canon-compatible) Names are rank. Rubies call each other their numbers, but inter-gem stuff is referred to by gem name Story plot Ruby @ battle in Rinto There’s going to be a Thing where a higher-up is AFK and not giving orders so Ruby will step up to the bat. It saves the squadron from dying or being seriously injured, but she is not a general so she gets shit for it Kind of a no-win situation with Ruby. She could have done more ass kissing in the fallout, but she didn’t realize she needed to. What she’s really being punished for is failing to pick up on the unspoken rules Meanwhile, something similar is happening with Sapphire – she is daeling with fallout of a similar situation. She spoke up about flaws in a plan, and didn’t dance around and take the necessary precatuions Both are kind of young, and new to their class. Very prodigious, but new and missing the rules Sapphire is more a case of not understanding how meaningful the rules are like Actually both of them are – not that they don’t know the rules, they just misunderstood that their case would apply to them As such, a bit too individualistic for their own society, so punished by putting them together, because this society is really stupid How they get put together – Ruby’s manager is like “this ruby needs to be sent off and learn some manners, do you have a post for her” and Sapphire’s guardian was recently replaced and is like “oh sure that will get her out of my hair more”. So it does happen because two people do shit they shouldn’t have for reasons. They should have known this would not work but beaurocracy and lack sof kjdask asdaskjdas
Cool idea for a thread! I'm working on drawing one of my oldest OCs, someone I've been revising endlessly since like 1993 or something but whom I am finally getting to use in an rpg. This pic is very much a wip, just layers of drafts of various parts, trying to pin down her figure so I can do a bunch of different outfits on the same frame (bc her wardrobe is still very much in flux rn) Spoiler: Pic is big and I guess technically nude too

I've been writing more RH fic on and off for the last while, and it just topped 9000 words. Still have some pretty big holes to fill in, but I at least finished the Very Important part where a small child is really angry about architecture. (tl;dr a friend of a friend mentioned that her main fandom was full of de-aging as a trope, where characters get dosed with some weird drug and turn into themselves as little kids, and I did what I always do when presented with weird fanfic tropes and applied it to my special interest. This turned out to be extremely Suffering, so I immediately had to write it.)

Poor Nellas (the one with the eight pack) has changed leg poses three hundred times but i'm never happy with them. i also have to find a way to emphasze how... triangular she is. her shoulders could carry the world
I haven't worked on this in two months and I'm not even in this fandom but I'm pretty sure I remember Jason Todd having red hair, but when my Batfandom sister got me to watch Under the Red Hood his hair was black, which means he dyes it, which means I gotta draw him with his hair growing out and needing to be re-dyed. I'm totally going to finish this one day, really.
A lot of this stuff isn't gonna be 'Works in Progress' so much as 'sketches that I kinda didn't get around to doing much with', but... well, I've got an awful lot of those lying around! Complete with notes! We'll start with some Nanoha Stuff? But also with some 40k mixed in. Because I made a crossover for some ungodly reason. Here we have Subaru, about to punch a Korpsman in the face. It's probably not a scene that actually happens in the story, but I decided to draw it anyways because it's cool. As a side note, skates are hard to draw. It hasn't gone well. It's a monthly off-weekend, and Teana and Subaru went to the beach with Subaru's family. Which, of course, meant that Subaru took the opportunity to show off... certain things... to Teana, and also kinda try to cop a feel. Teana is mostly unamused, Ginga just waves awkwardly. For an actual WIP, some preliminary renders from the preparation for comic project! Spoiler: Big Files Obviously it's just an early base with a basic material on it. I'm not quite pleased with the head, but I've learned to not judge until the hair is in place.
So after some progress and blatantly stealing borrowing some hands and feet from an old project, it's looking a fair bit better. Still basic materials, but there are nails now. They don't look very good, but they're there. Need to work on normal mapping for muscle definition (and probably some remodeling), but first I'll probably tackle the hair.
