i highly recommend the -kun series, the manga was one of my favorites when i was younger. i will say that it does have a lot more inappropriate and aged humor, b/c as far as i remember it was before censoring in japan when everything was dirty and no one cared.

All the matsus are just so good I just. It's so rare for me to so almost equally love all the main characters of something but. I love all these sextuplets.

Choro really won me in the first couple episodes with his straight man act, which reminded me a lot of Haruhi in Ouran, and then Ichi won me with his catlove and sads, and Jyushi Falls In Love mURDERED MY EMOTIONS, and Totty is just. fucking. amazing. all the time. and Oso is jUST SO SHITTY AND I HATELOVE HIM HE'S SO GREAT AND TERRIBLE

 

Oso is the worst and I love him. They're all my garbage sons really. I just... I love them... so much.... they're all terrible. ALSO: recently found a tumblr that translates the drama CDs... for those who may be interested....

I'm a KARAMATSU BOY :U It's cute that he tries so hard.

You have illuminated to me why I don't like Choro quite as much as the others. That kind of straight man character tends to read to me as "that guy who's just upset at everyone all the time and also hates fun" and it rubs me the wrong way. When he's not being the straight man, though, and just doing his nerd thing, he's just as cute as all the others.

 

Actually, since Ichimatsu's depression came up, I wonder if anyone else has thoughts on why none of the brothers seem able to hold down a job/headcanons on possible brainweird?

 

I've definitely seen some meta about how they kind of... hivemind, when they get going. Like, Karamatsu is RIDICULOUSLY nice, compared to his brothers, and hates the idea of causing them pain when he's on his own... but in episodes like the race to be protagonist and Kamimatsu, he'll join in with the others and get really aggressive and cruel.

They're all bad influences on each other-- or, maybe, Osomatsu being a spectacular shitheel is a bad influence on the rest of them-- and the idea that Oso has that they all have to stick together, or else Sensei will be disappointed in them for breaking apart his creation, causes him as Leader and Oldest to try and influence them into staying, 99% successfully.

(Also because shitty NEETs failing at life this spectacularly is funny.)

In my head Totty is totally the most evil Matsu, purely because two-faced people give me the creeps. I'd sooner hang out with Osomatsu because he doesn't pretend to be trustworthy.

I'm sure they could move away from their parents while sticking together, though. Can you imagine what rent would be like for six people who are willing to share a single bedroom? Nobody would have to work full-time, even if their parents didn't pitch in at all.
