i am imagining a bearded cap now and it was something i did not know i needed. like yeah the clean shaven look on evans really sells the whole "wholesome boy scout" thing that really says captain america, but i also like the idea of "scruffy boy scout troop leader" captain america. honestly even that would have been a better plot twist than hydra steve.
Okay, so, as many anticipated, the next issue explains that Kobik was influenced by the Red Skull into rewriting Captain America's past to make him a loyal Hydra agent, something that nobody but him remembers. Of course, Nick Spencer, who had previously gone on the record that it wasn't a wide variety of things including mind control or a cheap twist, insists that this is totally different from that and he's not a liar. So now, from the same pedantic bullshit factory that brought you "Hydra aren't Nazis" we have "It totally wasn't mind control." In which it's technically true by Nick Spencer's definition, but he's such a dick about it that he makes you hate him anyway.
Meanwhile in "what stupid things has Nick Spencer been up to lately," insulting random women on the internet, mostly. Jennifer de Guzman is a writer for comicsalliance, the comic news site which Andrew Wheeler also writes for. She posted this, as part of a conversation about "twists," and found a surprise Nick Spencer in her replies! Who...naturally insulted her and implied she didn't understand storytelling (can you say "sexist dogwhistle?") before declaring himself the victim and fucking off. As of a couple hours ago, she's still getting patronizing messages from his followers.
sighs real long and loud for like thirty solid minutes. is he honestly going to try and act like he doesn't understand the difference between twists in comics and what is basically the in comic version of a click bait headline
idk what's worse, if he's being defensive because he's playing solely for the publicity and he knows it, or if he genuinely thinks that he's the best writer eva and that is was such an awesome good twist.
From a recent issue written by Nick Spencer: Attack of the eeeeeevil millenial college student Ess Jay Dubs!
Sam really deserves his book being written by a better writer, Spencer is pretty incoherent with him. Like I get the impression for him Sam Wilson is mostly a sideshow to Hydra Cap, so he's spinning his wheels a little waiting for plot developments in that book to move forward. EDIT: Also, this team is called the "Bombshells," probably after the much better written and fantastically queer comic DC is putting out at the moment. Does he just have a problem with queer people?
Is this the same comic where Sam apologizes to Steve for being an advocate for racial equality because that was the most masturbatory white dude bullshit I have read in my life
