Spoiler: Spoilers because I spoiled myself I am literally screaming right now. Malachite! "No one can hold me down! Not anymore!" Alexandrite using all of the fusion weapons! The monster mouth breathing fire! The friendship arrow of destruction! Fucking watermelon tribe! Lapis casually flicking away the giant tracker! I'm not going to survive until the next bomb, I'm really not. Leave me to my handflappy misery.
Spoiler Well, that's the problem with your Peridot, she's been without her service Garnet for who knows how long.
pearl-likes-pi is a good blog, but I try to avoid the fandom for the most part because the blogs are so drama filled
I was thinking about human/college AU's and I just really like the idea of Pearl being a ball of nerves who grew up in an emotionally abusive household and has internalized a lot of negative opinions about herself, and she get's into a relationship with Rose who is a few years her senior. Rose is an extroverted aspie, and she's poly, and she also get's into other relationships (esp with the cute guy who plays guitar) and Pearl hates it and is insecure and jealous but can't vocalize it because she devalues herself and her feelings and she's also really scared of losing her? (actually now that I think of it, most of my human gem AU's come from very dysfunctional families?) I don't know if I want to make Amethyst and Jasper related in this AU like a lot of people do, but I think at the very least they have similar personalities and interests, and they would probably be friends except they are both simultaneously abrasive to keep people at a distance, and really insecure, so they probably got along great until Jasper insulted Amethyst or something so that snowballed into a lot of drama and now they kind of hate each other. Garnet is pretty chill and bff's with Rose. Unsure if Ruby and Sapphire exist in this AU. Peridot is hella autistic and likes engineering and watching entire series on netflix in 3 days. Lapis is a cynical art major who is 5000% done with the world, should probably be in therapy but isn't. Jasper and Lapis are still in a relationship in this AU and they are "really bad for each other" between Lapis being mentally/emotionally abusive, and Jasper who is still an asshole who steam rolls over people's boundaries, and they are both control freaks. other assorted human AU headcanons that I like: Amethyst has dwarfism, is genderfluid and latina Pearl is a lesbian so is Jasper, but on top of her relationshit she is also working through some internalized homophobia Rose is pan Garnet is also a lesbian but she's not looking for any relationships Peri is young and still figuring herself out but she's aroace Garnet and Greg are both music majors but their tastes are so wildly different that they don't really collaborate often. They are still friends though. Garnet, Amethyst, and Jasper like boxing, wrestling, and MMA respectively Yellow Diamond is that one profesor everyone hates
I mean, unless you AU them to be healthier, happier people, there's just no way it's not mutually abusive. I am not a fan of the "Jasper is physically and/or sexually abusive" headcanon that everyone else seems to have. She doesn't have to punch Lapis, she screams and punches walls, she get's in people's faces and is very grabby and that's terrifying enough. but in canon, Malachite is formed by deception, and is held together by revenge. There's a lot of anger and mistrust that fuel Malachite. She's described as "the worst relationship imaginable". In the show, Lapis has been in the one in control of Malachite, keeps the fusion together even though Jasper wants out (she tells Steven it's to protect him, and maybe that's how she justifies it to herself, but she really wants to hurt someone the way she has been hurt) and she uses her power to literally keep Malachite underwater, and in Malachite's headspace she keeps Jasper chained under water so she can stay in total control. There's just... no way you can translate that into a human AU without making Lapis incredibly abusive and manipulative. While they are both mutually toxic and abusive to each other, Lapis is definitely the one in control and has the power in their relationship. Lapis trying to justify it as "I'm a martyr and I'm trapping her in this relationship for as long as humanly possible so she doesn't hurt other people" adds an extra layer of fucked up. I headcanon both of them as coming from very fucked up abusive situations, but they continue the cycle instead of breaking it.
good shit good shit good shit i love when people remember lapis is kind of an asshole (i love lapis. i love her so hard.)
*chin hands* that was beautiful!!! Especially the parts at the end!!!! :adjsfldjasdf I just really love that song
I am decently certain that any music video set to How Far We've Come is guaranteed to make me cry buckets
