Spoiler The person was super upset because oh no the crewniverse has their heads up their asses why do they treat jasper like shit, why doesn't amethyst have her own arc going on wah wah and i'm like give them time maybe???? they literally JUST got back to airing episodes, you have no idea what is going to happen next. and YET.
Spoiler: thoughts man what a good pair of episodes I LOVED Super Watermelon Island, it was so much fun and the fight was beautiful and I loved the part where it had the watermelon "girl" and her husband hug, and then SHE GOES OFF TO FIGHT while he stays behind, that was awesome and I liked Gem Drill, but... in my opinion it felt a bit too rushed? Like... that whole thing felt like it got solved WAY too quickly to me. I really loved the bit where Stephen was having those terrifying flashes, though. That was super neat. And... at first I had a problem with the theory that SOMEHOW the cluster had never talked to itself in all these years until prompted by Steven, but then I got to thinking about it, and that's kind of what happened with the Crystal Gems too, though much more subtly. They had been just kind of going about doing their gemmy thing and stagnating, but Steven prompted them to change, prompted Garnet to become more loving. So I can buy that part, but it still feels too... quick. There was ALL THIS BUILDUP and then bam Steven just suggested they talk to each other and now it's fixed!
Ahh. What do they expect to happen with Jasp? If she didn't get Spoiler tossed in a hole, then she'd have ended up bubbled. this gives her some space! She needs space so that the writers can develop her without making the CGs OOC or whatever. She'll do stuff. Maybe with Amethyst.
Spoiler BUT see yeah. i have no idea what was expected to happen to her. like they were ranting and crying about how they'll never watch SU again, they treated jasper so badly. like... this gives her a chance to get away from the gems, not do much harm to people, and maybe come to terms with a few things herself and come BACK. I'm still betting on a Jasper redemption real hard.
Spoiler ah them trying to grab jasper aaah and grabbing lapis protectively ahhh and the cluster getting a pacifist resolution aaah JASPER THOUGH ALSO WATERMELONS AND THAT FIGHT WAS HELLA COOL and when wife watermelon hugged dad watermelon and then ran off to fight while he stayed with the kid 83 too precious and then they ended up helping immensley in the malachite fight aaaaaaaah looking forward to th redemption arcs for lapis and jasper, but also fucking the crystal gems? they need to do some things before i think lapis will forgive them for the mirror, but then again we dont know if the gems themselves put her in there of if they just didnt notice the gem was a Gem
Spoiler oh hey that is good meta steven's organic life. growing and changing. and he's encouraging the gems to do so, too
Spoiler yeh, yeh, Jasper on her own, possibly damaged... Jasper stumbling around, maybe cracked and delusional, having flashbacks to the war and the Kindergarden and junk, being angry and scared anx hurt and like a person with goals and faults and feelings and junk. All on her lonesome. God I just really want to see some of Rose's vaunted tactics from the POV of the opposing side. things i also want; P-dot doesn't hate Jas and maybe has a certain amount of loyalty to her as a person, and gets frightened or annoyed at people doing the "bluh bluh my enemies not like real people" thi/g, maybe. this is me being super self-indulgant. I really like stories where peeps who switch sides still love peeps from the POV the abandoned, sue me.
Thanks! :'D Admittedly it's not entirely mine, I remember somebody somewhere mentioning a long time ago that Steven's been pushing the CGs to improve, so it makes sense that it'd apply to this situation too! Spoiler: further thoughts Especially when it comes to communication. It feels like communication really isn't a big... thing... in Gem culture. Garnet's so special because she's a fusion made up of two gems who are really good at communication and do it regularly and freely and frequently. Pearl, even after joining Rose, was all about the selfless devotion and didn't seem to see what was wrong with that until Steven explained it to her and Connie--even though Amethyst and Garnet clearly also saw that it wasn't exactly healthy behavior. Which means that they probably hadn't talked to her about it. Amethyst is just... a whole lot of lack of communication about herself and her feelings. She avoids and deflects, but it seems like lately Steven's been helping her be a bit more comfortable with just being herself. Like with the episode where she gets poofed a lot! So it's entirely possible that the gem shards haven't ever communicated with each other. It probably didn't even occur to them as an option until Steven suggested it sorry about the extended rambling, I'm still kinda trying to get my thoughts together lol
Spoiler: !!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! I LOVE YOU PERIDOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love steven universe so much, guys. guys im crying
Spoiler Okay so rewatching it, and am i the only one who thinks that when alexandrite says "you two should spend some time apart" she sounds an awful lot like rose? just me? okay
Spoiler it is possible it was opal, i dont recognize opal's voice as well all i know is it sounded familiar and not like alexandrite
Spoiler: thoughts on the spoiler aka watch me try to be deep. lol deep. in too deep. geddit? the most alien and most human thing about Gems is that they don't communicate
I anticipated the fan reaction because every character has a small portion of their fanbase way too emotionally invested for their own health and well-being. all of the leaks kind of spoiled Super Watermelon Island for me. It was basically a "patch all the leaked scenes together with a few seconds of unseen footage" however I am so excited for where this series is going, every new episode only makes me more excited, and I really hope thereare no more leaks so I can enjoy the rest of the month/summer of new episodes without having all of them spoiled.
Spoiler I love the way jasper got literally the classic "recurring villain 'death'" "welp she fell off a cliff and is absolutely definitely gone forever now, no worries, absolutely nothing bad will happen from turning our backs on the body hard light construct projected from a tetragonal bipyramid of microcyrstalline quartz" Also no way that's the end of the cluster plot. Yellow diamond now has incentive to send more people to earth to try to unbubble it, and if they can get it out of the earth's crust safely or separate the individual shards it could be a really interesting endgame ally. Also ehehehe yes, thank you for mentioning that the mantle is made out of the same shit as Peridot (plus like some stray pyroxenes and the occasional garnet). And is also Not Fucking Liquid.
Spoiler: SHIP ANYTHING YOU LIKE, REBECCA AND IAN WON'T JUDGE YOU I totally can't see them at all as <3, but I am down for a really cute diamond! So down. It's really hard for me to conceive of a romantic angle, TBH, I personally read that as a familial/friend love, BUT. At the same time? Like mediating and advocating for Peridot has been what Steven has been doing, ceaselessly. He's never been hostile to her that I can think of, even for as long as they've been on opposed sides of a conflict. And you're right, that they're in interestingly similar places developmentally. I hadn't considered that. So! GO FOR IT. SHIP THINGS, DOODLE STUFF, WRITE DIALOGUES, MAKE GIFSETS OR WHATEVER IT IS YOU LIKE TO DO.
Spoiler: ships! Pale Stevidot would be friggin' adorable. Actually, Steven<>everyone, let's be real here. Steven is the ultimate moirail, it's him. Probably a good auspistice as well.
