characters on steven universe, i think, often understand each other better and bond more with each other after they get into conflict with each other it's like the thing about truth shouters that was mentioned earlier on kintsugi, about how some people are only able to say certain things in the heat of argument, how some of the things people think and feel are unsayable in ordinary life conflict leading to greater understanding and bonding and whatnot, strengthening connections instead of weakening them
link i love this piece of fanart 'cause pearl's wearing a hoodie in it and i love wearing hoodies and she's the steven universe character that's the most like me
I know I'm late to the party as usual but OMG I AM SO HAPPY Spoiler: GEM DRILL I just I could cry over the Cluster I've always felt so awful about it like it's some huge cancerous Legion of a tumour inside the earth but at the same time it's PEOPLE I just. I knew Steven would want to talk to it when he got down there - that he can hear other Gems in distress is something I've suspected since Chille Tid - I am SO. GLAD. FOR IT. It just needed some company dsfjk;kl;l;l brb making a massive chunky rope of a chaotic beading project for this ep omg
temptation to rewatch all episodes with peridot and allusions to homeworld/gem culture rising i want to rp her
I feel like someone had more than one idea for a shitpost and decided to just mash those ideas together.
now i'm wondering how amethyst's issues would be described in the metaphor. garnet's, though, i imagine, are, to the extent that she has issues, are locked in a small, cold steel box, which is on a really high shelf. that makes them hard to see - you have to crane your head - and hard to get at. stuff actually being able to get at them and let them out, like in keeping it together, doesn't happen often and it's surprising when it does. you can look at garnet and be convinced that she's totally chill, has no issues, and is completely under control and secure. and garnet is, as well, like, a special edition of a magazine, one that's longer, the equivalent of two magazines, but also just one. and some of her issues come from the first half, some come from the second, and some from the whole thing.
Amethyst's issues are clearly those weird bits of magazine you occasionally find in the woods and wonder who the hell bought these in the first place.
jasper will insult you, punch you in the face, and try to make a display of her masculinity and strength if you suggest that she has issues malachite is pretty much made out of issues, waterproof issues considered so dangerous that they were dropped in the ocean to keep them away from everyone else. but those issues weren't able to stay down there. instead, the time bomb attached to their container launched them out and made them everyone else's business. and the pages tried to stay separate from each other and readable, but they got stuck together anyway and had to be wrenched apart roughly.
Amethyst's issues are the pile of magazines you don't know where to put so you just shove them under the bed.
steven's issues are kids' magazines but more than a kid ordinarily has. and he manages to be bright and friendly and cheery despite that. he also has old magazine issues from his mother but they are locked up somewhere he doesn't have the password to (yet).
