Also saw this post on tumblr and thought it was pretty funny: now I am just picturing Jasper telling her backstory and going into more graphic detail than anyone is comfortable with. but all of this is just... her life, so she doesn't understand why people are so horrified and offended.
I like the idea of Jasper regenerating stripes where she was seriously injured/poofed just so she has so many pleasant stories to tell about times she was maimed in combat. Most of the time people don't ask questions because it's kind of obvious what her injuries were but one day she changes into an outfit that shows off more skin like a crop top and someone sees the stripe on her abdomen you see in the "jeans Malachite" picture, and they are like "oh that one you got from Alexandrite, right?" and she's like "Haha no that was the time I was hit with a battle axe this one is from Alexandrite" and then points to a different stripe on her stomach and that was the day we all learned not to ask Jasper where she got her stripes from.
"-- so i insulted her Diamond, and she hit me- and full force hit me, too, not like how she caught me cross the face that one time- and she ruptured the stomach i manifested earlier, and motor oil went EVERYWHERE, it was hilarious." Quartzes are master pranksters.
Spoiler: Barn Mates I gotta say, this might be my favourite episode out of the new batch so far. I absolutely loved Lapis' and Peridot's interactions *casually adds Lapidot to my shipping wall* and I'm so glad that Lapis got to be mean, rude and antagonistic after all. I was really worried about her getting softened up. And Peridot, precious Peridot! She tried so hard and I love her. I am just really enjoying her redemption. "I'm kind of a big deal," indeed. Aside from great character development stuff, this episode was straight up hilarious. I laughed out loud several times. Also, ominous Ruby cliffhanger. Is she one of the Rubies from the old Ruby trio? Seriously though, what a good episode.
Spoiler Watching and "Were you trapped in a TAPE RECORDER too?!" --yes. She was, actually. And wow Peridot is having a hard time figuring out why Lapis isn't happy. But I feel like Lapis kind of has a point - this is being played like it's all Lapis' fault being the big harsh meany and ignoring that Peridot dragged her to Earth to be an informant, interrogated her, and has no remorse about that. And - HOLY SHIT. How did that thing get so close to Earth, the last Eye took AGES to get through the atmosphere! and OH MY GOD RUBY WITH AN EYEGEM.
Spoiler ...oh my god, I didn't even think about that. She really was. Spoiler Exactly. She has every reason to be pissed and suspicious. And Peridot's apology was... not great. I really hope this will be explored some more so Peridot actually realizes the actual scale of what she did. I don't think her redemption arc is over and done just yet.
Those episodes were great. I love Lapis. I love everyone. Barn Mates spoilers: Spoiler I especially loved how much Lapis hated Peridot, and how she wasn't going to forgive her right away. I feel like Steven and Peridot needed to learn though that you can't make somebody like you or forgive you, but I honestly can't complain. I feel like the fandom should really take Steven's "you need to get to know someone before you decide you hate them" lesson to heart. Hit the Diamond spoilers: Spoiler This episode was hilarious, everyone as just adorable and funny and it was so nice. If I liked Lapis before, I love her now. She was great in this episode. My favorite Ruby was the one who thought the Earth was such a lovely planet and was generally super sweet and nice. it looks like either homeworld is allowing more diversity with gems or all the rubies being 100% the same in looks and personality was just a simplification that happened in Garnet's narration. also wow, Jasper is the one in deep shit, not Peridot. My guess is that either she did something bad before the mission (like that fan theory that she went instead of the Jasper that was actually assigned) or she has to take responsibility for the mission failing because she was sent in to protect Peridot and make sure that she could accomplish her mission. between this, which implies that she is now a refugee too, and last episode's "you need to give people a chance before deciding you hate them forever" I think a "Jasper redemption arc" is pretty much inevitable. I for one welcome our new buff mom.
What, I didn't know there were two episodes! Time to go watch Hit The Diamond as well! (linky for others who want to do the same!)
Spoiler Yeah of course Garnet reacts first. ...and these Rubies have way more diverse personalities than the ones we saw earlier, it seems. HUGS! ...at least Ruby doesn't have a star on her costume. And these Rubies are - not very smart. And Ruby is not a good actor... why do the rubies have any consideration for humans. EARL AMY BOB (no prob bob?) SOPHIE. And Ruby of course has the dokis over 'sophie.' AND SAPPHIRE DOESN'T HAVE ANY GLOVES OR ANYTHING. AMETHYST PEARL AND LAPIS COVERED THEIR GEMS AT LEAST. SAPPHIRE AND RUBY YOU USELESS LESBIANS. ...Lapis is surprisingly good at baseball for putting NO EFFORT in. Sapphire should be able to see the best time to swing, right? THough I expect not having depth perception doesn't help. YOU USELESS LESBIANS. ...of course they're more concerned about Jasper. Thank goodness Steven is a quick thinker.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH (barnmates) Spoiler i LITERALLY SQUEALED WHEN LAPIS ASKED PERI IF SHE WAS OKAY and they i went, "OH NO!......OH NO!" when the ruby came out
Spoiler: AAAA AAAAAAAAAAA okay i won't even lie i love these episodes i love them they're great and i am still in love with lapis even though she's an antagonistic turd sometimes. just. oops. of any character i just really, really identify with her and that experience
Spoiler: Hit the Diamond RUBY AND SAPPHIRE ARE BEING USELESS LESBIANS AND I LOVE THEM I LOVE THIS SO MUCH PLEASE DESTROY ME THESE EPISODES HAD ME LAUGHING AND LIKE GIGGLING IT WAS SUPER GREAT??? THESE HAVE TO BE SOME OF MY FAVORITES SO FAR
