Midboss spellcard: Human Thing "Baseball" ~ Six of a Kind :::PPP Lapis could also have a spellcard with that water-duplicate thing she did against the Crystal Gems in her intro episodes. Summon adds that do nerfed versions of the Crystal Gems' characteristic patterns. And yeah, curved lasers seems like Pearl. She has the prettiest and most elegant patterns, with lots of big swooping curves and spirals and loops.
One of Steven's bombs is just his bubble, and another is called something like "Friendship Seal ~ Five Days of Joy." :::PPP #geddit because stevenbombs are five days
Amethyst's whip would probably = some kind of BIG OL' LASER/ wall of bullets that you've gotta run like hell from. Also, purple puma spellcard. Her patterns would probably be the most randomized of all the gems - you've gotta be able to think on your feet.
There is ABSOLUTELY a purple puma spellcard. She's also got a spellcard based on that double-whip purple energy thing. Also shapeshifting, but probably not the same way as it's represented with Mamizou. More "she makes a giant hand and then it stretches out and smacks you" or something. Garnet fires her gauntlets at you a lot. Sometimes they explode, sometimes she just hits you a ton of times super-fast. (I think a Garnet fight would kinda resemble Raiko's a bit, actually.)
I'd say that the strategic key for each of the crystal gems would probably be: Amethyst - think on your feet, be able to adapt to randomness Pearl - be mobile, move fluidly Garnet - recognize patterns, avoid getting boxed in by thinking in advance
The water clones are a great idea - also maybe a tower of bullets that she builds up the center of the screen and then lets crash down all over?
Pearl also seems to have some ability to control wind and clouds, so she could have an interface-screw card where she blows in clouds that make it hard to see where the bullets are.
Yesss. also maybe a holo-pearl card that gets progressively harder? (One should definitely be Rebellion Sign - Terrifying Renegade)
She starts doing the same pattern a bunch of normal enemies do which has a huge blindspot, then teleports right behind that blind spot and starts shooting a bazillion bullets everywhere. #thou shalt not underestimate pearl
Garnet Cards: Third Eye - Branching Path Fusion - Made Of Love STRONGER THAN YOU (mandatory English, all caps so you know it's serious) Fusion - Earthbound Answer Pearl Cards: Knight Sign - Sworn To The Sword Precious Object - Nacre Accumulating Rebellion Sign - Terrifying Renegade (should be a survival card for max terror) Projection - Useful Doppelgänger Projection - Crystalized Memory (A Last Word type card, themed around Rose)
Oh, and, pretty much everybody has SOME attack that uses music-note bullets. They're just a normal bullet type in History of Crystal War. :::PPP
Precious Object - Nacre Accumulating could maybe have a sun (representing the "pearl") in the middle that gradually grows as the card progresses, diminishing your space to move.
Kinda like Utsuho's last card? Fusion ~ Made of Love uses both Ruby and Sapphire's patterns, so you're dodging giant fireballs while being herded around the screen in a tight loop. Except the fireballs are hearts and the loop is heart-shaped and Garnet is surrounded by a heart and it's so saccharine it hurts. :::PPP
Amethyst's Purple Puma card is called "Violet Cougar ~ Heel Face Turn" and if Steven bombs during it his cut-in is wearing his Tiger Millionaire costume.
Peri's spellcards: Laser Turrets ~ "Die! Die! Die!" Olivine's Anti-Fracture Sealing (the limb enhancer one- peridots IRL are pretty fragile and chemically unstable, and metal is often used to protect them) Blaster Sign ~ Clod Extermination of N64 ('cause you gotta get those Touhou "awkwardly translated from Japanese" phrases in somewhere :::PPP ) Spoiler: Too Short to Ride Metal Sign ~ Levitation Home-Made Mech Assault ~ Missile Barrage
Insomnia, so: Spoiler: Touhou cheatsheet for those who don't go there Spellcard = a boss attack pattern with a fancy name. The tend to use a lot of little 「quote brackets」 which get transliterated into English a few different ways- I've seen '[X] Sign "[Y]"', '[X] Sign - [Y]', and '[X] Sign ~ [Y]'. Danmaku = bullets/lasers/etc. Bomb = a player character special attack that clears all the bullets off the screen. Usually you use them mostly as a panic button. Sun bullets = a particular type of bullets which are huge circles with kinda weird hitboxes, so you can actually pass through part of the outside safely. Time out/survival card = spellcard where there's no boss health bar to damage and you just have to stay alive until a timer runs out. Reference to "Danmaku Paranoia" = this spellcard. The boss surrounds you with a little vortex of bullets that trap you in a very small area. "full Mokou" = reference to the extra stage boss of Imperishable Night, who rains fire upon you. Satori = boss whose entire fight consists of recycled spellcards from previous games. Because she can't fight, but can read minds, so she just picks things out of your memories. Master Spark = one of the MCs' trademark attacks/bombs, a gigantic face-melting rainbow laser that fills up most of the screen. Human Thing "Baseball" ~ Six of a Kind = There's a boss with a spellcard called "Taboo ~ Four of a Kind" where she splits off a bunch of copies of herself. Mamizou = Boss who's a tanuki. Shapeshifting is represented with bullets shaped like birds/dogs/people/frogs, all of which behave differently. Raiko = Boss who's a drum spirit with lightning powers. Her fight involves lots of falling, shooting, and/or exploding drums. Utsuho = Boss who ate the sun god and now has the power of nuclear fusion. Her last spellcard, Subterranean Sun, which the link there jumps to, involved her starting a fusion reaction and creating an initially-small but growing sun.
That reminds me, I've gotta get around to drawing Ruby and Sapphire cosplaying as Mokou and Keine sometime. (Fighty fire lesbian in red pants) x (clairvoyant lesbian in a blue dress) is my OTP 5ever after all. ALSO, @LadyNighteyes what say you we make a Touhou thread? Not for this discussion, just for general fangirling.
