:D:D:D that's a really awesome theory! Spoiler: alone at sea it did seem odd to me how they just... found jasper in the sea, she and lapis had that moment and then lapis walloped her away, and then it all was just... done. like, that's not how i'd have expected jasper's reappearance to go.
(non-spoilery headcanon) My idea is that Gem magic is sort of similar to boggarts - they do not have form, language, etc. except when they are being observed by sentient creatures. Without that, they exist as pure magic. (Well, pure magic rock.) Any sentient creature who looks at Gems will see their true nature "translated" into characteristics that the viewer can understand. This takes some much more detailed explaining to really express what I mean, but perhaps some people will get it from this, cause I'm low on words.
Got around to watching Greg the Babysitter and my brain decided to fixate on the critically important question of "why does Greg always have a t-shirt sunburn when every time we see him he's wearing a tank top?"
Spoiler: alone at sea/jasper lapis discussion That's... probably the best way I've seen the Lapis/Jasper situation described. Because Jasper is pretty abusive, but so is Lapis, and they're toxic together, and anyone who says Jasper deserved to be locked up at the bottom of the ocean is missing the point. The point is that no one deserves it. I really hope Coelasquid doesn't get a lot of shit for this, but given that she's been pretty firmly a Jasper fan from the first couple episodes, I'm hoping most of the complainy types have been weeded out already.
Spoiler: T-shirt sun tan His tan is tinted pink. Until proven otherwise, I assume a burst of magic when Steven was born.
Tell that to two- or three-year-old me, who climbed all the way up the outside of a playground tube slide and terrified their parents.
apparently two or three year old me liked to get on the top edge of the plastic playplace we had and tightrope walk around the edges a lot
Re: Sunburn, I was assuming it was one of those permanent tan line things, where you spend so much time in the sun as a youngster, your skin not regularly covered by clothing will always be significantly darker. My dad is like that, his for arms are several shades darker than his upper arms and chest. But that wouldn't explain it, because Greg's tan/sunburn doesn't match the clothes he wore when he was younger.
things I just realized with the fishing metaphor from Alone at Sea Spoiler Jasper is "hooked" on fusion, no matter how self destructive that is. I predict her arc over at least the rest of the season is "addiction is a motherfucker"
Yeah I mean on seeing that it's pretty clear SOMETHING symbolic is going on. Though I thought it was more, you make someone think something very harmful is what they want. In that case jasper and Lapis both count as the fish, though lapis doesn't go for the hook in the end.
this has nothing to do with the Heavy Meta we've been currently discussing but i went to gamestop today to get the little mini blind box figures i got greg & pearl and they're adorable and i love them. that is all.
Very slowly catching up. Just finished Kiki's Delivery Service. I did not think it was possible to be more upset with someone in my life. I am upset with Steven. Stop it Steven. SUFFER STEVEN. SUFFER AND REPENT FOR YOUR SINS. WHICH ARE MY SINS. D:<
Centipeedles have made me somewhat less irate with him. Yes good. Defend the centipeedles. So many centipeedles.
He doesn't know when to fucking stop. And just wears himself out. But he goes "oh no i have to help :D" even when he is FALLING APART AND PROBABLY DYING. Which is really a minor annoyance made FAR WORSE by his meddling in people's romantic lives in an attempt to fix things. I've been kind of furious with him since The New Lars because nothing infuriates me more than past me. I was grumpy about vengeful Steven too.
Huh, see, I was actually pleased because he actually finally went "no, I can't do this any more" and told Kiki that he wouldn't do more beyond that night. I saw it as him learning to boundary up a bit. But yes, New Lars and his meddling was very >:| I still cringe when I think about that mess DX
