VILLAINS ARE SO HOT. JASPER IS SO HOT. PLS TAKE ME AWAY

Also Connie does that thing I did as a kid! Preparing for the Apocalypse! It's adorable oh my god let me hug her. Also: let me hug Pearl oh my god???? "Who's your favourite gem?" [...] "Is this about the favourite gem thing? That was just a joke! Please don't tell Garnet!" just. oH MY GOD. And Steven that precious poor child he was so scared when Jasper showed up he needs so many hugs.

...I think Connie's whole Thing was being a normal human who wants to be involved in the amazing special world. Having her be Secret Gem Descendant would ruin that, I think. And I think Stevonnie is possibly only because Steven is supposed to be between humans and Gems and a part of both worlds, able to connect with people on both sides naturally. Connie only uses Rose's sword, first teaming up with Steven, then after training with Pearl, presumably to the point where she can use it reliably - also she doesn't use it one-handed. And we don't know a Gem sword is as heavy as a normal one, who knows what materials they use?

And I think Rose would be able to know what would happen when Steven was born. Presumably she'd figure out 'well this kid can't survive without my Gem' or, y'know, ask Garnet.

My read on Steven being able to fuse with humans was that it's a power unique to him - because he's half-human, he can fuse with humans as well as gems. Gems trying to fuse with humans doesn't work, because they're two totally different things, but Steven's partly one thing and partly the other, so it works out.

That said, I think that theory has some things going for it that my justification doesn't - namely Pearl specifying that you have to have a gem to fuse. I'm not sold on it - I think Connie's arc isn't going for Secretly Part Gem - but I'd be willing to entertain it if more evidence cropped up.

yeah, I mean, if they went that route I'd be...disappointed. I like Connie as Normal Human Who Does Cool Things.
side note, though, I think it's been said Rose could've had a purely human child and survived? so he could've survived without her Gem, but I think that would've defeated the purpose of her having him--she wanted him to be a bridge between both worlds.

My moirail is trying to get me to watch more Steven by mentioning Connie and Pearl doing things together. How dare he wield my ship like a weapon. That bastard.

Also I don't think the Blue court has a huge connection to water? I mean, Lapis, yeah, but Sapphire doesn't have any such connection, and the floating court is in the clouds above a forest.

Sapphire's connection is to ice, which arguably still falls under water - remember the motel episode? She froze up the room when she was mad.

I don't think there's been any explicit connection between Lapis and Blue Diamond, actually?

Yeah, there was just a silhouette of her at the court. Or another Lapis. Hard to say, really.

Also Sapphire could just be cooling the air, I suppose... Does she ever control ice, like Pearl does with sand? Or just cause the area around her to get very very cold?

I think they've put a lot of thought into it, but I don't buy it, partly I admit because I don't want it to be true. Fuck having the badass humans be sekritly not really human. But also:
...or she had to put a crapload of thought into the mechanics in order to be able to pull it off. It's not like she would have been able to let a pregnancy progress naturally, the way we biologicals can; she had to make a conscious effort.

Not that I don't think Rose would have concealed information if she saw fit, and of course we know Homeworld is all about lying their asses off about the capabilities of gems re: mixed fusions, but it's definitely not a necessary thing to explain this part.

You just said we don't know how Steven's body works, so we don't know what is and isn't impossible where he's concerned. If Connie fused with, say, Pearl, that would be something that needed explaining. Plus, Stevonnie is fairly unusual among fusions- no extra anything (because how do you even bone structure with some of those), very little extra mass.

And if it did need explaining, the theory wouldn't account for it anyway. A single Gem ancestor all the way back in rebellion era would have essentially no impact on the genes of an offspring millennia later.

What is that sword even made of? Steel ain't pink, crystal's too fragile. That sword is probably made, at least in large part, out of bullshit space magic, or at the very least it's heavily enchanted. I don't think the theorizer is taking into account just how much fantasy is in this fantasy show.

Not this long after the fact, there wouldn't. (Yes, this may be hypocritical given the bullshit space magic thing, but they're the one trying to invoke science. Either it matters on this point or it doesn't on the others.)
I've probably been ninja'd to hell and back, but whatever, I spent too much time writing this not to post it.

apparently when bismuth is talking with the gems in one of the other episodes, she mentions 'ol crazy lacy' and crazy lace can be a type of jasper. it can also be a type of agate though, so... either way, i'm just saying, it's entirely a possibility that at least one jasper at some point did convert to the crystal gems side. and we see more corrupted jaspers in future episodes.

np, i know some people want to be extra careful about the spoilers for this week and next week since they're all going to be so plot heavy, especially since one of the people working on the show said to be careful. so might be good for anybody else with spoilers about future eps to double spoiler to be safe.

    O shit!!! That episode!!!

I'm at work so I gotta keep this brief but:

My first thought was "oh shit Jasper's looking to become Gem Monster Voltron", but after more thought I don't think that's really what's happening here.

The way she brought down those corrupted gems was calculated, tactical - Jasper fought like the competent soldier she is, not like she was looking for a fix or going on a rampage.

And there's the way she called out to Steven, taunting Rose. It implies that she expects Rose to understand the implications of what Jasper just did, and what Jasper might be planning. I think Jasper's newfound interest in fusion is too recent for that! (Not that I, too, wouldn't go to extreme lengths to be able to fly)

This is something familiar, something very Gem. Jasper is harvesting .

    More support:

Harvesting is implied to be at least visually similar enough to the way the Crystal Gems store corrupted gems that it's Peridot's first assumption when she reforms in the bubble room. This episode happens on a gem retrieval mission.

A future episode (the season finale, I think?) is titled Gem Harvest, presumably a callback to this episode's ttitle, Gem Hunt.
