Spoiler Well, I don't think Pearl knew at all that she was hurting Amethyst - I really think she thought Amethyst was letting Steven win. Otherwise, I don't know what she'd do, but she'd do SOMETHING.
Spoiler basically same. i really love that amethyst is maturing a lot and yeah, "i'm not mad at you. i'm mad at myself, which makes me worse at everything!!!" holy shit i have been there girl. i love pearl and i look up to rose but i relate to amethyst so hard and it hurts. my sweet child. i'm so glad amethyst is getting another arc, and i hope so much that it culminates in a solo song for her. one was not enough. and pEARL oh my god she's simply too adorable. the ~Pearl Prize Pouch~ which you earn by getting Pearl Points ahhhh i actually can't.
This episode was super good but christ it might have been the hardest episode for me to watch yet. I could barely even get through Pearl being adorable
Spoiler: steven vs amethyst I was really feeling Pearl at the end there, though. Irreplaceable artifacts getting broken always makes me cringe.
Spoiler Agreed. And I didn't get the impression she or Garnet got told any of the details of what happened to her in that fight; they can tell she got poofed and reformed and Steven says Stevonnie beat Jasper, but that's it. So it's not like Pearl would be thinking "Amethyst must be feeling terrible about herself," either.
Spoiler: Steven v. Amethyst I feel like Amethyst is missing the point dangling right in front of her face about what she's good at. Complete guess incoming here, but my supposition is that Amethyst's specialty lies in being anything she wants to be. Consistently, she's displayed the most familiarity, adaptability, and variety with her shapeshifting talents out of all the Crystal Gems - really any Gem we've ever seen PERIOD. Amethyst may be the weakest physical fighter between her, someone who taught themselves fighting from the ground up over thousands of years, and a fusion of a soldier and a seer, but of course she is. As I think it was said upthread, Amethyst has seen relatively little serious engagement; the worst she's ever had to deal with were the Corrupted Gems, and matches against any Gem that knows how to fight outdo her because her experience is minimal. Being unpredictable, spontaneous, and wacky embody the traits of what Amethyst IS. While her base powers are fine, I feel like if she were to consider her shapeshifting talents in a more serious light, she might be able to really prop herself up there with the others on the pedestal she seems to put them on.
Spoiler: Steven vs. Amethyst MY BABIES ;U; I am so proud of my purble daughter!! And I am proud of Steven, too, for opening up a little about his inadequacy issues. My babies. ;u; Spoiler: half joking half serious Maybe Steven can fix them? That's gonna take a lot of spit. Also maybe some leveling up with the healing powers.
http://mid-childan-puella-magi.tumb...6/stevonnie-ive-been-trying-to-figure-out-for Aaaaaaaaaaaaah. Also man that bodes bad for amethyst if the things about her new form being Jaspery are followed up on.
@KarrinBlue I don't understand the significance, not having seen that show. Would you mind elaborating if it wouldn't be too inconvenient, maybe spoilered if needed?
Ok so, in princess tutu, those red things are the crystal shards of the heart of a prince, whose ancient enemy is a monstrous raven. Spoiler: Princess tutu spoilers in that story I THINK that that gif happens a little after the prince's heart has been doused in the blood of the raven. This causes the prince to change, becoming a very toxic person (I think Ravens blood is meant to symbolize toxic behavior and fleas from abuse) and eventually becoming a mini-Raven. So here it'd indicate that amethyst got... infected I guess by jasper ideology and it'll start having bad effects on herself. This is assuming that the gif happens when I think it does in season 2 though which might be me mixing up AMV and anime again. Anyways I'm not certain about that gif so I'll check the episode I think it's from tomorrow.
Spoiler: steven vs. amethyst Anyone else think that making the shared training competitive in the first place was a poor decision on Pearl's part, especially between a new student and someone she's been training for a while? She could have awarded the Pearl Points based on effort and improvement instead of saying "whoever performs better gets points, the other gets nothing". It's good to see Amethyst being more honest and direct about her feelings.
Spoiler: Steven vs Amethyst @soulsuckingisaacnewton Someone else also said this but I am too lazy to look through all the spoilers again, but I think Pearl genuinely thought Amethyst would do better than Steven/ better than she did. But yeah, Steven has had more time to practice with Pearl's training-specific stuff. He would have had an advantage with knowing how to deal with the holo-Pearls regardless. It would have been a better idea to go by effort/improvement.
Spoiler: steven vs amethyst That's a much more complex grading system, for one thing, that she didn't have time to see any need to devise. Plus, she was clearly convinced that the "new student" was already far ahead and couldn't possibly need it.
Spoiler: sort of spoip for the last few episodes so, i know garnet is far from omnipotent, but shouldn't her future vision be predicting at least some of this? how is jasper's actions just happening to be too unpredictable a reality every single time?
Future vision is a tricky thing to manage a plot around. I keep wondering how it's ever possible to lie to her, since she should be able to see the possible futures where you own up...
I've always thought of it like Garnet has to be concentrating implicitly to notice something being done in terms of futuresight, and that while she's adept at strategic maneuvering, she sometimes doesn't think to do it in social situations. I'm a little too tired to word this well, unfortunately.
