that is good art and i'm excited over how i totally have the pearl body type - which isn't news for me but yeah, seeing these pearls naked really highlights it.
also: while i was looking up songs for my Bismuth mix, i realized this is much better suited to Pearl (being super cheesy about rose) Relevant lyrics: If the worst should happen, if it hits me tonight I won't die from death, I will die from love I won't die from death, I will die from love Because I am a soldier of happiness, bullets don't like me You can kill my summer, but spring will live
No actual spoiler in my reply, but addressing liminal's 'the writing is pretty jarring this season' sentiment... I feel like I was just sent backwards in time to about 4 years ago and I am super infuriated because I'm reading about how Disney decided to just air Motorcity episodes out of order to put all the episodes with big explosions in the beginning so that the show would look 'interesting' or attract kids or something. Marketing things. Which totally messed up the schedule and development the actual team had structured. I was thinking about this earlier, in fact, when we suddenly had two episodes about the Pizza family in a row, and then suddenly a fucking torrent of Jasper episodes (like thank god and also jesus but wow what, what happened to your pacing) and it seems like someone up there is saying 'put all of these episodes about this one together so that no one forgets what's happening. And so that we aren't waiting for things for like fifty fucking episodes like what you used to do with slowly releasing canon fusions. None of that shit, give us this entire arc now, and then all the filler arcs in another group, and then another entire arc and be done with it.' Obviously this is just a vague feeling but comparing how it felt to wait and wait and wait to just see Lapis again (and how fucking psyched I was when it happened) to having big questions answered an episode after they were brought up... I feel like someone rearranged the episode release dates, and it wasn't Ms. Sugar. And I do feel a little uncomfortable saying this but... compare the Sardonyx/Pearl fucks up arc from a few stevenbombs back and how this Jasper arc is panning out. The crew knows how to pace these things... I feel a little like someone isn't letting them. I don't think this is just fan nostalgia either, like, I waited 50 episodes to be sure Garnet was a fusion at one point and now I am being told what the hell Jasper's plan is like, a week after she formulated it. RE: the weird writing in the leaked episode, Spoiler: Beta I don't want to totally call this theory yet, but if we suddenly get a Peridot-Lapis friendship building episode something like Log Date AFTER this Jasper arc wraps up, I might just claim rightness despite lacking firsthand evidence. Just saying, I feel like we missed an episode, and we might have someone putting them out of order. Idk. At least the... arc? Meta-arc? The bits and pieces that address 'who the hell was and is Rose Quartz' are still few and far between. I am enjoying how little I know about her and how hard it is to understand the little pieces I'm given. When I start to get a little worried about the show, I think of any fucking Rose episode. So complicated, and so simple. Totally unrelated, Spoiler: Beta I will never get over how few fucks Lapis gives. Yeah, just let the bow tie sail right over your head. Don't even move. Perf. Thanks, Lazuli. Awesome.
That...actually makes a lot of sense. We know CN has done that in the past due to the first Stevenbomb, and given that this is also an Event Thing...yeah, wouldn't be terribly surprised. And Bismuth was hyped as the 100th episode, and when an already-major episode gets hyped as an episode-number milestone, there often is some schedule shuffling involved. Personally I'm not worried about the show itself--the individual episodes are still excellent for the most part. Which, IMO, kinda lends credence to your hypothesis!
To me "the writing feels off" is a characterization thing. This season watching the Homeworld gems is like "okay I have no idea what your personality is supposed to be anymore". It's probably just because we havn't seen them enough to get a good grasp of their characters in the first place, but it still feels really... off to me. There's something about them that's different that I can't put my finger on, but watching them it feels like their personalities are dictated by what the plot/episode needs instead of their personalities dictating the plot of the episode. Just... shallow and inconsistent in a way that I don't expect from the same crew that gave us other really beautiful and well written episodes. I'm sure it will be fixed once we see more episodes, but right now it feels like such a weird and awkward place.
If this is a scheduling shuffle thing, i hope we get a list for the correct order- a few episodes first season were moved like that(t-shirt club i think and one other where garnet had her old outfit after the return/jailbreak) and we got an intended order list later on http://ianjq.tumblr.com/post/123939657564/now-that-all-the-season-1-episodes-are-out-could
Things have been a little crazy. It took almost a year for the show to air all of season 2 (march to January). Season 3 will air in its entirety in 4 months (may to august). That could be why the show is feeling off and rushed to some people. Also, unlike season 2, we have a bunch of character development happening offscreen. The major players this season - lapis and jasper - aren't around steven all the time like peridot, pearl and garnet were last season. Steven doesn't have as much influence over the outcome of their problems, and I think that's ok. Also, we are about four episodes away from the season finale, and we are definitely running in to the build up to that climax.
Yeah it's a pretty fucking Meta thing but having stuff come out slowly, in installments, or (if it's a game) playing it in batches with time between plays really does something for me. I really like what that imagined time does--it makes relationship building seem like it goes more slowly, allows me to imagine a lot of time passing between installments. It's entirely in my/our head/s but it still does something. Gives time for headcanon building and for people to rewatch and wonder and for me to make really immovable, really incorrect opinions to be shocked and dismayed by when canon crushes them in front of me. Makes the canon seem longer, despite no actual time passing in canon. I get offended when people say like 'that game happened over the course of a week, maybe two.' Nope, it took me at least six months, and it took them twice as long to build the complex and deep relationships they have in my head. That probably is part of what I'm missing this season, frankly--private time with the characters between canon >u<
Yeah I've been waiting without watching through the weeks, which is easy right now because I have two jobs that are murdering my free time. (That as my goal. This is not a complaint.) So I try not to think about SU during the week (DESPITE MY BURNING NEED TO KNOW) and then sit down with Lilly and watch four or five episodes. It's nice that way actually! The binge nature makes it seem like a lot should happen in a short amount of time. And when I watch one episode I always want more SO
i dunno, i kinda like having one every day. it's the perfect end to the day, like, had a terrible day? new steven will make it better! had a really nice day? new steven is the perfect end to the day! had a meh day where nothing good or bad happened? guess what, there's a new steven to look forward to!
SO i found this completely off the wall theory while googling pictures of yellow pearl and i love it because it's really cute and has almost no chance of being canon. BEHOLD: Spoiler: yellow diamond is actually normal sized and yellow pearl is just very very small [source]
Spoiler: i watched beta against my better judgement I would just like to state for the record that I love the fact that Lapis and Peri have been creating art, and that they just kind of stumbled across the whole concept of art. I wonder how they'd respond to various art from Earth.
Spoiler: Not sure if spoiler I just like the fact that so many people changed their art tags to some variation of "meep morp" after that ep
Spoiler: spoilers for gem hunt and beyond someone drew jasper fused with the corrupted gem she caught and oh man i'm in love [source]
