I considered having an Amber gemsona for a while and Luka suggested the body horror potential in having things embedded in the Amber's gem, or their protected body itself. If you keep it to their gem, maybe it could make them manifest with weird bug parts. OuO
Spoiler: Buddy's Book BOOOOOOOOKS-! "Shh!" Boooooooks-! Oh Connie, you adorable over-achiever. "I'm imagining him looking like Jamie." Haha, the carved-up giant strawberry. Historical Crystal Gems! Hm, neat little recap of previous locations. In conclusion: Books.
I found it here. :D Spoiler: buddy's book That was a fun episode! It was cool to see some of the 'verse's history from a human perspective. Also SO MANY D'AWWS! LION PARKING. CONNIE'S INACCURATE PAPER ABOUT RACCOONS. THEM IMAGINING BUDDY AS JAMIE AND DECIDING THEY LIKE THAT BETTER THAN WHAT HE ACTUALLY LOOKED LIKE (which I mean, I can't blame them, Jamie is precious). Also, some trivia: I once did something similar to Connie as far as papers and internet misinformation goes (at her age, in fact!), except it was a paper about Matt Groening and I included a bit about how he'd been elected student council president but was kicked out of the position after he tried to amend the school constitution to make him an all-powerful president for life. (While Groening has gone on record as saying this is untrue, he's also said he wished he'd thought of that at the time. :P)
Spoiler: buddy's book im not done watching the episode but HOLY SHIT thats blue diamonds........walky thing
Spoiler: Live reactions! Who's gonna mess with a giant pink lion... ahahaha. Well he is a cat, sort of. SO SMALL Oh are we gonna see what history looks like? !!!!! Why is it in a PUBLIC LIBRARY Is he picturing him as Jamie because - yep. Ooh, the Strawberry Fields are in Europe! GARNET! FABULOUS. Pearl you may have messed up there. But Garnet knew EXACTLY what she was doing. PENNYFARTHING BICYCLE. Tiny beetle apartment! Sea spire! !!!! BLUE DIAMOND'S PALANQUIN Is this when he met Amethyst? Wait, wasn't Amethyst teeny back then. The. Sand castle. Oh, the Desert Glass! Wait where is she pointing too on the map... China? ROES ROSE HAD A PRIDE OF LIONS! A lioness too! And they're nromal lions too. And of course Rose's costume didn't change. Rose are you going to make Buddy your new favorite human. Awww.
Spoiler: buddy's book I'm so happy about Connie taking Steven on adventures too, especially to far off worlds like the library. GEM HISTORY???? Strawberry fields is in Europe? Good metric for how far the warp pads go. PEARL P E A R L GARNET Sea spire confirmed for where Russia used to be Blue diamond's thing!! Funny how all of these things are human accessible. Sand castle??? Rose had a whole fucking pride of lions???? Normal lions?? Has she always had a thing for lions?? Rose has definitely always had a thing for humans though. This was cute.
Spoiler: Buddy Oh hey! Pre-Greg evidence of Rose's fascination with humans. Here's a guy who's not succeeding in the role he's assigned for himself, and she just... suggests he tries something new, and he goes with it! That easy! That kind of thing must have been SO COOL for her to see. Also, evidence that Blue Diamond's palanquin was abandoned on-planet. I wonder how that happened?
Spoiler: Do we still have to spoiler for Bismuth? Oh my god. Follow-up from the Bismuth making weapons for gems: I'd loooove to see the moment when Pearl gets her spear. I really doubt that Pearls come equipped with weapons by default! It is widely treated as ridiculous for a Pearl to fight, why on earth WOULD they have weapons built-in? So there'd be this big watershed moment where she's finally given potency, the ability to fight for Rose, the ability to be more of an asset than the personal assistant/ eye candy she was made to be... and then, oh my god, there's her stockpile of swords. All her life, she'd probably been denied any chance at self-defense, and collecting weapons probably became a Thing, and you can't tell me Bismuth didn't make every one of those swords especially for her. Is it any wonder she likes Bismuth so much?
I'd bet some of her sword collection is also human-made. She's stated she admires human ideals of knights, after all.
Dunno! She was the type to keep humans and their culture at arm's reach until Steven came along. Her sword collection is from hundreds of years ago, in all likelihood, and gem-made weapons are likelier to stay in good condition for that long that human-made ones. Though I wonder how much of the weapons used in the war were inspired by what the humans were using? Seems unlikely that alien weapons just so happened to convergently develop with exactly what was used on Earth.
I was looking up the watchcartoononline page for linking to a friend and there was a new one unexpectedly.
Yeah, 'sharp thing with a handle' isn't exactly high tech. The forging can be, but ehhhh. Attributing human accomplishments to aliens is a shitty trope, so I hope that isn't the case. Besides, swords are low-tech enough that each society could have come up with the idea independently.
Spoiler: ame Given that in the present day she describes her hole as "me-sized," and that Gems don't age, it's not implausible that the looking-like-a-child thing was a phase of sorts for her, IMO--it seems to be implied that she was born at her current size.
Spoiler: buddy's book it's also that steven doesn't know what she looked like. he was imagining her appearance and it's possible he's never seen pictures of her from around the time greg met rose.
