was that confirmed? I thought it was implied... did someone make a tweet? though i guess saying 'partner' over 'husband' is p clear.
I literally checked this thread and Tumblr.txt wondering what horrible Discourse the fandom was spewing now. It happens every episode
Spoiler: gem harvest these episodes are made days in advance and not a year so clearly rebecca sugar should have known how the election was going to turn out so andy is definitely an awful trump supporter and not just a hestitant in the face of change moderately republican coded family member also no one jokes about their trauma ever it's always serious business (sarcasm btw)
Spoiler: my happy thoughts because fuck discourse lapis: jokes about her trauma everyone: ....uhm honestly same lapis is best mom. i too throw my son onto a plane. the "i dont give a fuck" with the wedding cake was real ONE BIG HAPPY GEM FAMILY steven traumatized that pumpkin and you know it "garnet always told me not to lick things on the ground" was i hearing things or did steven say "the first law of gravity" in his brief "please float" monologue
Spoiler: gem harvest thoughts ahh it was a good ep. it occurs to me that i've never seen a thanksgiving special of anything that puts the focus so hard on found family and how important that can be, instead of Your Family Is Terrible And Thanksgiving Is Suffering. it was so kind and sweet, but then again, this show always is. i loved the bit w/ everyone joking around the table about the gem war. god how far they've all come, and their bond is so strong now!!! ahhh!!!! also, re: The Discourse Spoiler: idk if spoiler or not but basically the problem is our fav queer cartoon portrayed a conservative, close-minded relative without rebecca sugar stopping the narrative to explicitly denounce his viewpoint, and instead of lighting him on fire while steven told him he was a bad person and the gems high-fived, they had the audacity to treat him kindly and use their familial connection to convince him to open up a bit, which as we know, is Terrible and Never Happens. but i haven't seen any of the posts themselves, just third-hand reactions about how Someone Said It Was Bad.
idk if anyone of you know of them, but vrai writes recaps of su and they're usually pretty great and reasonable, this is their recap for gem harvest. i'm not sure if i agree, but i at least can understand where they're coming from and why this ep is rubbing some people the wrong way. thoughts?
What the hell, that was like the sweetest episode, why are people discoursing Spoiler I mean heck who doesn't have the weird Uncle Andy at the back of the family gathering who is weirdly suspicious of hippies but tells stories about flying places in his aeroplane? It's like a Relatable Family Experience Also omg at the thing with Steven's family surname
I feel like this was exactly the type of episode we needed after Trump getting elected. Something to come together in the commitment to not be thrown out, and to the strength of people being... people. I don't know. I need hope like this. I need to see that it can be better after the shock I've gotten. I thought it was perfect. It's ok if other people disagree, that's fine, but it does upset me a bit to think that people are so riled up over something so sweet that there is Tmblr.txt discourse
I loved this episode Spoiler: spoipers especially the part where the Gems tried to cover all the celebrations of a person's life "we're very sorry for your wedding" pffffffffffffft and I liked the ending. Andy realizing that it's not a bad thing to change, or for people to leave, and that just because they do doesn't mean you can't visit them or still be their family. also Peridot going "wow thanks for the barn!" just beautiful good episode
Spoiler I mean I laughed when Peridot went "reactivating drones" but Steven has the right idea. Let's all gather around the table and give thanks and bring up all the old family drama but then bond over it!
Spoiler: barely a spoiler but All these other moments people are mentioning are great, but I just remembered that the first time this episode made me lose it was when Peridot was talking about trying to grow things on the farm because she missed the 'pitter patter of gem soldiers'
congratulations to steven universe becoming the first Fan Town thread to reach 100,000+ views with gem harvest!
omfg this episode I'm not even done yet but Spoiler Steven lies to make them feel good, awkwardly plays along with their good cheer, and fesses up only when it turns out it's not working as he'd hoped. And then he horrifies veggiedog by mutilating one of its nonmobile kind right in front of him. I think the show even used some of the terrible gem things music to convey the sense of wrongness :') Andy Demayo (i will look up the proper spelling later), Greg Demayo, Steven Demayo "Demayo is a better name than plain old universe," Steven pouts All these lovely hints to what the family was like, and that Greg's been out of their lives since he went vanning and musicking, and likelihood that most or all of the older generation is dead, given that the family no longer gathers there Steven being an expert negotiator by appealing to what they all want Spoiler coven illegal aliens, and in order he wants them out of his planet, out of his country, out of his barn. murder arson and jaywalking marriage cake andy watching the fact they are a family, even if he doesn't get the vast majority of the jokes and references and then lapis making a really offtone joke that only peridot laughs at "yeah something's wrong: you're a mile in the sky floating off a floating lady! go home!"
