I'm watching Message Received and I gotta be honest I sort of fucking hate the way the Crystal Gems talk about Peridot after Steven locks her in a car
I love to have things to hate about them! It makes it that much more apparent that Good Guys aren't pure and perfect but a matter of striving to be, and means there's that much more validity to Steven's hope to befriend people and reduce the conflicts ahead. Not stop it all, alas for the poor kid, but a lot more than they've been in a position to think is possible.
Spoiler: Three Gems and a Baby thought Honestly, with how tight baby clothes can be, my thought was more that having the buttons done up was pressing the gem into Steven a bit more than would be comfortable, particularly to an infant. Didn't even cross my mind that every gem we've seen has kept their gem relatively free and clear most of the time (possibly barring Peridot and her visor), to the point of having most clothing specifically altered to leave a space for it, even when it broke with otherwise "standard" designs. Given that clothes are usually part of a gem it could easily be both, some combination of "this can't be internal to the body" and aesthetic issues with it just clipping through a dress or something?
Spoiler: ooh! That's a really good thought! And now that Steven's older and wears things like t-shirts, he can go for clothes that are looser and breathe more easily, so it's probably not as big a deal for it to be covered now.
Spoiler: That's what I was thinking! 'Cause the way he lifts his shirt and we see it move, it looks a bit big on him. Most kids' shirts tend to be at that age from what I remember, because growth and money and all. I imagine it's also a thing where he's older, he's more used to it, he can put up with it if he needs to (like when wearing a fancy outfit or something). Kinda like how lots of folks find ties or belts unpleasant, but are used to them enough to make do when needed rather than have the more averse reaction a baby will due to its own lack of experiences and ability to communicate. Spoiler Yeah, whether or not it's the case, it's certainly convenient to side-step that for the theory. Heck, even Amethyst, who kinda has her shirt come up over her gem, still seems to have some space there most of the time? Or maybe I'm reading way more into one aspect of the thing.
hmmmmmmmm. so apparently a storyboard artist confirmed that Mr. Smiley is gay, so we do, at the very least, have confirmation of one half of this relationship. welp that's enough evidence for me it's official canon they are gay, especially for each other
right here, yep! The wiki keeps stating "he did a comedy routine with his friend and former partner" so i can assume they were in a relationship :P
