Spoiler: Steven's Dream Did anyone else catch how when Pearl was explaining about the zoo, she said something like "When I worked for... Homeworld, I saw it with my own eyes"? Pearl was originally Pink or maybe White Diamond's pearl, confirmed?
haven't had time to watch more than a few clips of the leak so far, and mostly i'm excited for it, but like... Spoiler: leak stuff, negative is it just me or does 'what's the use of feeling blue?' sound awful? like, almost unlistenable and just really uncomfortable to watch? normally i like that the music is a little unconventional and offbeat, and it's a fantastic character moment and there are little bits of the song here and there that are actually compelling and pull me into it for a second, but holy shit the sound and rhythm of most of it made me actually a little bit physically ill, in the way that people eating too loudly does. it was SO BAD. i'm not sure what my point here is, other than that i am a little distressed and confused because normally su songs are fantastic and i was kind of wondering if anyone else got a similar something-like-secondhand-embarrassment from that one. or if there are any other similarly awkward songs i should be prepared for when i watch the stevenbomb.
Spoiler: related It definitely wasn't my favorite SU song, mostly because I felt it needed more room to breath. The melody it was built on has been used in the show before, I think as the homeworld theme or the theme for the diamonds? And it is a very deliberately discordant song. Maybe that is what you were picking up on?
Spoiler: related that might be a big part of it! i know a lot of songs and soundtracks with similar discordance tend to make me NOPE real hard, and the same with a lot of the aesthetics that tend to show up in Visiting a Bizarre Colorful Unsettling Alien Ship; i guess it makes me nope extra hard because of how many times scifi stories i've been reading or watching take a hard turn into Intense Discomfort On Purpose and stay there, often because the characters are unable to leave said Discomfort Zone, and just... blugh, for some reason anything that pings as that usually gets me SUPER hard. i dunno. Spoiler: personal baggage, church eta: actually, now that i think of it that might have something partly to do with being intensely weirded out and uncomfortable with church on some level for most of my growing up, and spending as much time doodling as possible because THIS IS REALLY WEIRD AND UNCOMFORTABLE YOU'RE ALL ACTING REALLY WEIRD AND UNCOMFORTABLE AND I DON'T LIKE YOUR MUSIC AND I DON'T GET IT AND YOU'RE SAYING THINGS THAT FREAK ME OUT I WOULD LIKE TO GO HOME NOW, and of course always having to stay until it was done and come back a couple days later because Church Was Mandatory. hm.
Spoiler: Halfway through the last leaked ep and I am really strongly getting the impression Yellow Diamond shattered Pink Diamond and Rose was a scapegoat, and the circumstances were bad enough that Rose blamed herself for however it happened. Yellow's song to Blue is so manipulative, it makes my SKIN crawl.
Spoiler: oh DAMN That...wow. That could explain a lot, including the fact that Pink's symbol seems to have been removed from the Diamond insignia. That said, what about Eyeball saying she saw Rose shatter Pink, and Garnet confirming it? ...Wait. What if Yellow had Pink killed, using Rose as an assassin?
Spoiler: Even more I'm not sure if Yellow is crushing on Blue or just needs her backup, but she's PISSED Blue is still hung up on Pink. I could absolutely see Yellow murdering Pink in order to consolidate more power for herself and then having it backfire as Blue and White don't go along with Yellow's plans.
Spoiler: I dunno.... as much as I know Rose isn't exactly who Pearl and Garnet and Amethyst think she was, I don't think she had it in her to be an assassin. her betrayal of her Diamond was about breaking free and being who she wanted to be--and I don't think that had much to do with being hired as an assassin by another Diamond. not to mention that....as much as Yellow seems inclined to not feel her grief, I do think she's grieving over Pink! so I don't find her shattering Pink or getting someone to shatter Pink very likely.
Spoiler I'm reading her grief of Pink in this specific scene as performative in order to get Blue to do what Yellow wants. Doesn't mean I don't think Yellow isn't grieving. You can grieve someone you killed, or who you're glad is gone for other reasons.
Spoiler: I mean could be....but again, we have two eyewitness accounts that Rose shattered PD--and I really, sincerely doubt that Rose would have agreed to be an assassin, even before she rebelled for good. I can buy that Yellow might be glad Pink is gone, but I don't buy that she did it.
Spoiler: another possibility! Perhaps Yellow knew the rebellion was very likely to happen, and knew Pink would likely suffer for it...and simply didn't care enough about Pink (or Earth as a colony) to bother to stop it. She might not have expected the rebellion to become as serious as it did, but at the same time... I dunno, I'm just spitballing here.
Spoiler: And now for something completely different I can't believe Steven Universe crossed over with Neo Kosmos! :P
