I'm gonna try avoiding the leaks for this one. I want to see it all live. Can we do a rabb.it room for this? I don't think I can host but if someone can that'd be cool
I should know better than to go on youtube before a special but sometimes i wanna chill and watch some funny videos. This has lead me to see Spoiler: No spoips just intentionally vague screaming some VERY ALARMING SCREENSHOTS THAT I WILL NOT BE ELABORATING ON BUT HOLY FUCK ARE WE IN FOR A WILD RIDE. I am talking crack theory so far out of left field theres no way it wasnt made in jest level spoiler, what the f u c k.
Spoiler: I looked at ALL the spoilers. and I need to discuss a theory of mine. so.....some of the spoilers show new Gems, hiding out in some area of what looks like a Kindergarten. and a lot of people are speculating that some of these new Gems are fusions, because they've got multiple Gems on their bodies. and to be fair, they probably are fusions, just fusions that haven't been fused long, or not fused often, or fusions that just have so many Gems they can't maintain quite a human form, or fusions that just don't 'meld' as well as, say, Garnet, but stay together anyway. but. the Kindergarten they're in....all those holes are so close together that some of them are overlapping. and this gave me a thought. what if, if you put Gems too close together in the ground....they can meld into one being as they form? one body, multiple Gems. I DON'T KNOW I THINK IT'S A FASCINATING THOUGHT and and there's another Gem we see who's got, like. two heads and somewhat two upper bodies, but only two arms and two legs, they're conjoined. either their Gem is very badly deformed, or.... they're two same-type Gems who were too close together while growing and melded. (also the orangey Sapphire, I love her.)
Yeah i really love the evil little fairy, she is fun. Sugar said topaz and aquamarine are meant to represent different high class gems for the different diamonds, and show what each diamond values in a gem
I've seen that comment, but it seemed a bit odd? Topaz really doesn't seem to have anywhere near like the same level of autonomy that Peridot or Jasper had, and from what she said during the episode it seemed like that was a continual thing, not just because she was acting in a suboardinate role to Aquamarine.
thought: maybe Aquamarine is Blue Diamond's, but Topaz is Yellow Diamond's? from what we've already seen, Yellow seems to value discipline and getting the job done, not....acting or thinking for yourself. Jasper only started doing that because she was alone on Earth with no real orders, and she kind of started to break down besides. maybe Topaz is high-ranking, but all Gems under Yellow are like that, just following orders--and so Aquamarine kind of took charge on the mission and Topaz just did what she was told. I mean, it's not like any Gem under the Diamonds really has autonomy--they have to do what their Diamond tells them.
I mean. that is why my first thought would be that she was Blue Diamond's. :P she is blue. she's wearing blue. Topaz is not, she is yellowy-orange in coloring. and besides--it's pretty clear that both Yellow and Blue were interested in gathering more humans in the human zoo episode. I mean, Yellow probably only wanted to because she thought it might help Blue, but it would still make sense for someone from each of their....um, groups?? to have gone on the mission.
It could also be a relative thing in terms of rank--Pearl did react like Topazes were a pretty big deal, and it's possible that Topaz is high-ranking but not AS high-ranking as Aquamarine? It seems like the Gem caste system is incredibly rigid like that, and even the slightest difference in rank could be pretty significant in practice, if not in theory. (See also the fact that Peridots are implied to be pretty damn low on the totem pole, but Peridot still initially refuses to respect Pearl due to her being even lower down.)
its interesting that the lower ranking gems tend to be bigger and/or more butch tho (bismuth, rubies, topaz [high ranking but still lower than the more femme aquamarine], famethyst, jasper) i wonder if thats a deliberate choice
Maybe part of the reason Topaz has less personal power than other gems is that she's a fusion most of the time? Peridot was pretty dismissive of Garnet calling her a war machine, and that's probably a common viewpoint, so as a fusion Topaz could be valued for her physical abilities while not being allowed to control her own actions? (I don't really think it's a yellow diamond thing - peridot and japer both value getting the job done, but they were given a lot of latitude in how they could get the job done)
