Spoiler hmm, so yeah, but it doesn't rule out more minor influences, technically. And the "technically" is important here, because They've done this to us before.
Spoiler: oh god so like, I watched a new Crystal Clear video and while I'm not fond of his characterization of Pink as a pure sociopath who just is sheer evil, I WILL say he made a point I hadn't thought of.... the Rose Quartzes. we thought all of them were bubbled after Pink 'died', right. but he suggested, like, maybe Pink bubbled them herself, and I just. 1. the bubbles are pink. PINK. if this was just a thing of the background/light, I'd expect the bubbles to be some other shade, like a mix of yellow and pink, or blue and pink, or something, not straight-up pink. and as we've seen, a Gem's color seems to dictate the color of the bubbles it makes. 2. if there continued to be Rose Quartzes long after Rose's rebellion began, why didn't anyone notice that the leader of this rebellion was seemingly more powerful than any other Rose Quartz? I mean, even IF Rose Quartzes are healer-types instead of warrior-types, Pink Diamond's undoubtedly more powerful than the other Rose Quartzes. what if....Pink bubbled the other Rose Quartzes herself because she was worried that other Rose Quartzes being around would draw attention to HER Rose Quartz disguise being somehow more powerful or different in some way, and so she used 'the rebel leader is a Rose Quartz' in order to....prevent anyone ever noticing that real Rose Quartzes weren't as powerful/the same as the rebel leader? eta: and maybe the reason they were BUBBLED, then, instead of shattered immediately upon being poofed, is because Pink was like "oh once the rebellion's dealt with or whatever they can come back!" or something?? or maybe she bubbled them and then just....didn't think about it again.
Spoiler: oh, also Crystal Clear guy also noted that....Blue Diamond clearly heavily blames herself for what happened. she even says "I should've done more." she clearly believes that leaving Pink to try and handle the rebellion was a mistake, that it was her fault for telling Pink that as a Diamond, she simply needed to keep ruling, to 'smile and wave'. she believes it's her fault Pink is dead. SURPRISE.... I have to wonder how she's going to take this. I mean, I...I can't imagine the Diamonds will NEVER find out. eta: ...I've been thinking. at first, when we learned about this, I thought that like, if/when the Diamonds found out, they'd mostly be like....kind of angry, but relieved--Pink's not dead, they can get her back. but the more I think about it the less sure I am of that. I mean, maybe if Pink had told them EARLY ON "I disguised myself as a Rose Quartz to wander the planet, I started the rebellion, I don't want to make this colony" they might've like....looked on it as her being young and naive, or some sort of childish rebellion/lack of understanding, and forgiven her, even if they took the planet from her. but now? Pink cost them probably HUNDREDS of Gem soldiers. she cost them a planet, she started a war, they used their biggest trump card trying to get back at the person they thought killed their sister, ALL BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T WANT TO MAKE A COLONY ON EARTH. they mourned her! they thought she was DEAD! Blue, especially, has been mourning her for thousands of years, Blue and Yellow both seem to blame themselves for Pink's death to some extent--and all of it was a lie. this is like....the rug getting ripped out from under them and there's a black friggin' hole in the floor. what Pink did, at this point, even if it's not unforgivable to the other Diamonds, is a damn serious infraction. I can't believe they'd brush over it and just....want to get Pink back home to be a Diamond again. I feel like if anything, there's gonna be some mixed feelings, and a lot of shock and anger. and I am AFRAID FOR STEVEN.
Spoiler That being said, I do have to say that if this is going the "Pink was the real villain and the other Diamonds are actually kinda sympathetic when you consider that" way, which is unlikely but plausible, I'll definitely get mad.
Spoiler: Bd Yeah, and I was thinking - Blue would probably be easier to convince than the other two. She's clearly a mess, and any hope that Pink isn't actually gone... Well, at best it'll make her even more dangerous. I'm not saying it'd be easy at all, but she might be a better route in than trying to talk to Yellow or White. Also, this is me just spitballing, but I wonder who else knew Pink personally? Like, did only the other Diamonds see to her creation, and if so, why is she a different shape than the others? Is she a deep cut, like Amethyst, because the resources needed to make a diamond are massive and Homeworld was starting to run out even then? Also, was I the only one seriously impressed by the implication that she could just CRUSH dirt into diamond fragments? I mean, holy shit, that's crazy strength right there.
Spoiler: couple of thoughts someone suggested a theory I find interesting, which is that Diamonds and their sizes are proportional to how many planets they have, because they feed off some of the planet's energy BEFORE they start using it to make things. this was suggested based on the fact that in actual flashbacks we've seen so far, Pink's size seems to...vary. I mean, Stevonnie's not that much bigger than Pearl afaik, and Pink Diamond can be approximated, probably (based on the window height), as roughly Stevonnie's size in the first flashback-dream Stevonnie has as Pink, in which Pink doesn't have a colony. however, when we see Pink Diamond with Pearl in Pearl's mind...she's like, twice Pearl's size. and coincidentally? she also has a single colony now. it would also make sense for why White is, seemingly, the largest--while Garnet's flashback didn't show a whole lot of white diamonds on claimed planets, if we look at White's mural and assume that's accurate, she has a LOT of planets--just maybe not all in the same sector Earth was in, which is why we didn't see all of them. on the other hand, Blue and Yellow have approximately the same number of planets, so it'd make sense for them to be about the same size, which....they seem to be. at the same time, Pink's gem is....constantly making me wonder. I mean....it IS a diamond. that's definitely a cut diamonds have. but....it's so very DIFFERENT from the other Diamonds, from what we know. the other Diamonds have actual diamond-shaped cuts, while Pink....has a shape that's definitely used for cutting diamonds IRL to go into rings and stuff, but also looks literally NOTHING like the other Diamonds' gems so far. I have to believe that's not just some random throwaway choice, or even just a thing that happened so that Pink could become Rose. I feel like there has to be more to it than that. even if it doesn't make her a deep cut like Amethyst, I feel like it indicates SOMETHING is just a bit OFF about Pink, at least by 'normal' Homeworld standards. and it may not be that she's actually an off-color, but just that her gem is supposed to indicate that she is, in fact, different from the other Diamonds because of her experiences early in life, which ended up setting her apart--but still. it's very clearly setting her apart and there has to be some reason for that, I think.
Spoiler I can't wait for them to try ripping Steven's gem out. "Once we're done, you are so grounded."
Spoiler for the new episode Spoiler A couple of things regarding Pearl- first off, the fact that Pearl has waited a least a month to do anything with Mystery Girl’s number means she probably lost her chance. Second- dear god she has issues. She’s been through so much. The war, being bound to silence about the truth about PD/RQ, having to poof her and then losing her for real thousands of years later... and she just hides them all away and acts like everything is fine. Usually. I hope having Steven know the truth means she can be more open about all this now and get some help. Third- who else wants to see the inside of the other gems’ head spaces now? I bet amethyst just has dozens of piles of junk and a bunch of amethysts running around yelling about things.
Another spoiler for Rose Spoiler I know that Pink/Rose did some very bad things, but it's hard not to feel bad for her because of what happened. She gets her colony... and it's already inhabited by organics. Turns out she likes the organics! ...and the other Diamonds don't. Presumably she talked to the other Diamonds like "Rose talked to Pink" about sparing them and leaving the colony. Presumably they had the same reaction "Pink" did- the colonization will continue despite them. She creates a fake identity as Rose Quartz and leads a rebellion... but the Diamonds insist that Pink continues with the colony, even if all she does is smile and wave. She fakes her own death with the help of Pearl, thinking that with no Diamond, the colony will be abandoned... and the other Diamonds nuke the earth. Almost all her comrades are gone. Unless the attack specifically targeted Gems, then a lot of organic life surely died as well. Everything she did wound up causing problems not just for herself, but for everyone she cared about.
Spoiler: aon is a degenerate piece of shit And that's why she's the hottest character in the series by far.
Spoiler I still kinda agree with one of the "critical" talking points of "Why couldn't she just lead the rebellion as Pink Diamond?" Though of course, I consider it more of a flaw with her rather than with the show.
@ the above Spoiler she may seem like Vriska, but Emerald is the one-eyed waifu. Amethyst is still better than both of them tho.
Spoiler what no neither of them would destroy my entire psyche while also exuding a powerful mommly aura garnet is the second hottest. then doctor maheswaran.
Spoiler Amethyst is a fun-loving babe and would be super fun to go on dates with. She likes food, comedy, and rockin out in the car to some cool tunes. Rose is a rich-girl-turned-hippie mom who left Pearl for a rock musician. Sorry, Amethyst wins. :P
Spoiler See. That is exactly why Rose is the hot one and Amethyst is not. Amethyst is the superior friend, however.
Well, to each their own I suppose. You know what? I’m gonna make a BIG post for the Waifu Wars. Pros and cons for every gem I can think of. I’ll post it here when I’m done, later.
Spoiler I wonder if PD’s Command isn’t why Pearl started repressing everything in the first place. She had this enormous important secret that she literally couldn’t talk about, so she just... pushed it down. And then when more traumatic stuff happened to her, that was the only way she knew how to deal with it.
