Fairness to myself, I less theorize than make theoreticals. That sounds like semantics but I can’t prove any of the possibilities I bring up or make a graphic map about their truthfulness, I think of outside possibilities that would make good aus and then wonder if I could make a canon case for them. Almost always, no. But I make quality, affordable fanon fodder.
Spoiler: a thought I keep wondering if how a Gem looks when they shapeshift and stuff is, at least in some part, linked to how they view themselves. because like...if Amethyst can change color to things that are blue, why didn't she make herself orange or something when pretending to be Jasper? but at the same time, while clothing can represent who someone is, I'm not sure it's so much a PART of who you are--so maybe it's easier to alter that, because even if they can't take off clothes, they're still not linked to who a Gem is, imo, as much as like....their natural coloration or Gem placement or things might be. like, having certain physical characteristics might register, possibly subconsciously, as part of who they are as a Gem, whereas clothes might register as less important for that. most of why I'm thinking about this is two things: one, the placement/face of Rose/Pink's gem never changes after Pink's 'death', even when we saw her fuse that one time, which personally I'd think it might be harder to maintain a shapeshifted thing during a fusion, even if both Gems involved KNOW it's a shapeshifted thing that's making the gem face a certain way. but two, if Rose's gem placement and stuff is linked not just to shapeshifting but shapeshifting as a result of her perception of herself, it might make more sense why she's able, in the first place, to change the way her Gem faces, and her coloration, even slightly. she literally sees herself more as the person she shapeshifts to, a Rose Quartz, than she does Pink. bc like, while I acknowledge that clothing changes are technically part of shapeshifting, they....don't register on the same level to me as changing your entire form. I mean, Pearl changes clothes too, but she never fully shapeshifts except the time we see her as Rose--and Steven even asks Pearl if she can shapeshift, but she doesn't switch clothing to demonstrate she can even though she seemingly has no problem WITH changing clothes, so I sort of feel like shapeshifting clothing may not be quite the same to Gems as shapeshifting their entire physical being. so while changing clothing color might indicate that they can change colors no matter what, I do have to wonder if changing colors of your entire form is a little bit more....intense or difficult or personal than changing the color of clothes. in which case, that still brings me back to 'why could Pink do that', but like....if it IS that, and it's because she sees herself as legit more Rose than Pink, it would explain why she can change colors and gem facing direction. she sees herself as a different Gem, which is a thing we haven't seen in anyone else in the show yet. eta: I really hope this makes some kinda sense bc I'm v out of it rn but yeah
Can we call the terrible Rose/Pink/whatever wank the Disquartz Like can that be the official name for it
I like it. Also, in celebration of 6/12 here’s some evidence that Steven and Connie would totally read Homestuck! Steven: Is a teenager Parental issues Already used to human/alien interactions Pretty sure he’s not not straight Connie: Is a teenager Parental issues A total nerd I rest my case.
I feel like Connie definitely reads Homestuck and has roped Steven into reading it. Steven may or may not have skipped to act 5 the first time.
Connie would run a theories blog that obsessively tracks obscure pieces of trivia from Hussie's formspring. Steven would run a blog where he designs trollsonas and fancy god tier costumes and trickster modes for people, and hasn't yet admitted to Connie that he doesn't understand half of her theories.
steven and connie then get into an argument when she gets nitpicky over of the lack of canon compliance of one of his designs they resolve it civilly in the end, of course
In their later teens Steven and Connie are going to become fandom famous for their amazing illustrated fic collabs
I JUST LEARNED WHY LARS IS A DIFFERENT COLOR IN ALL THIS RECENT ART (I fell behind) (really, really behind)
I feel like they would both write, but different types of things - Connie does mostly longfic with plot and worldbuilding, and Steven does a lot of fluffy oneshots and intense character studies. And they both beta each others’ fic and make fanart for each other! And then one time for nanowrimo they collaborated on an epic 500k space opera or high fantasy au or something, and they actually wrote part of it as stevonnie, and it was incredible.
Peridot continues to be Best Gem In Universe Back to the Kindergarten = Such a perfect encapsulation of depressionfeels. I am kin with her right now.
SU’s portrayal of brainweird continues to be one of my favorite things generally tbh. Someone give the depressed Dorito child even more hugs ;-;
