Aw man, thanks for reminding me there was a new ep and providing me with the link. I would have been spoiled within 5 seconds on tumblr. As for the new episode itself, my general feelings on it were: *SQUEAKY EXCITEMENT NOISE WHILE HAND FLAPPING*
Spoiler: spoips AAAAAAAAAAAAAH PERIDOT IS SMOL!!!!!! This was an A++ episode omg. Peridot is such a little shit, I love her. AND DID I MENTION THAT SHE IS SMOL BECAUSE SHE IS. she is so smol. <3 Finally, file Amethyst trying to flush herself in the toilet and also peeing in the ocean under the heading of Noodle Incidents I Need To Hear The Stories Behind, along with her failure to commit to being to the crocodile, Steven's nude Beachapalooza act, and the reason they don't make donuts at the Big Donut anymore.
EXACTLY Spoiler: Peridot thoughts. Perithoughts? Also I'm screaming at how much it seems like tumblr was right about her? Like, the limb extension thing, and her being a tiny tiny baby thing And it seems like she might get a redemption arc? Or at the very least become a tiny horrible semi-ally who is probably still going to be a little shit AND I CAN'T WAIT
Spoiler: My hopes - Peridot gets a Piccolo/Vegeta "redemption" arc of being a sorta ally who is still a jackass - Unfusing Malachite because I don't like Steven being sad and guilty about Lapis' decision, especially since she made it under duress :( - Yellow Diamond for scariest antagonist yet - Just what was Rose's long-term plan? - Are any of the other gems down in the basement healed enough to be people? Will Steven insist on trying to free and rehabilitate them?
Spoiler: Ooh I really want some kind of... Steven manages to free and heal all of the bubbled Gems and lead them as reinforcements for the Crystal Gems when they're in a really terrible spot. Also I want Lapis to return and get a pretty new dress.
What do you all think about... Spoiler: ...spoilers? Peridot calling Garnet a "war machine"? Is that reflective of Homeworld viewing fusion solely as a combat tactic, not a life choice as Garnet sees it? Or is Garnet or her constituents part of a low-ranking soldier caste of Gems? Garnet seemed to find it highly offensive.
Spoiler: response spoipers???? Probably something regarding Homeworld's views re: fusion. I don't think it necessarily has to do with Garnet specifically, or with Ruby and/or Sapphire. I don't know that Garnet would be all that bothered by being part of a soldier caste, and we don't even know much about Gem castes (if they exist, outside the more-or-less confirmed Pearls-as-servant/slave-class thing). But fusion is incredibly important to her, as we've seen throughout most of season 2 (especially Keeping It Together and the entire Week of Sardonyx), so it'd make perfect sense for her to be upset by someone disparaging it. Fusion, specifically Homeworld's thoughts on it, has been getting a lot of focus this season, and when you think about it, the fusion experiments seen in Keeping It Together and Nightmare Hospital are essentially war machines. So that's where my money's going.
So I hear that the next episode is about Steven helping "a friend" through a thunderstorm. Spoiler Well, she's already locked in the bathroom, just like you do with a pet that can't handle thunder! #if I'm wrong I'm wrong #but I'm allowed to be hopeful right
*SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE* Spoiler: excitedexcitedexcited I really hope this actually leads to Peri teaming up with the crystal gems because she is ADORABLE i love this rude child so muuuuuhuhuhuch!!!!!!! Also pls more exposition in upcoming episodes. Gimme the info dumps. Peri should definitly infodump @ steven and the crystal gems about homeworld status and politics like asap (i might be weird about ginormous piles of information being thrown at me without warning though)
@Mercury mentioned that peridot is like a baby GLaDOS and - so true! I love her so muuuuuch ;-; ineffectual villains for lyfe
-and pulled down the curtain rod and (probably) sat on the fallen shower curtain it all night in absolute darkness.
Aaaah *rolls around* Spoiler I was laughing the whole time too, she's so cute~ I love Peridot even more now heehee. My favorite was when she said "What's your shirt" and of course Steven answers her seriously. I'm pretty happy about Peridot opening up to Steven a little. She clearly doesn't trust him, but that's understandable, she doesn't know much about Steven anyway. Also the idea of a redemption arc sounds weird to me. At this point we don't really know that she's done much wrong. She might have been involved in the creation of the cluster but we don't know if she was the creator or just the gem sent for a routine check on the Cluster.
Well, we don't know what her roll in the overarching plot is, but she has behaved like a villain an tried to straight up murder steven during Friend Ship. Maybe she'll get a nonstandard redemption arc that doesn't end up with her dying for the cause. Please.
Yeah, but at this point most of the gems we know of have tried to kill the little dude/stood idly by and let Steven maybe die. I mean, can't think of Garnet and Amethyst might have done that fits that bill, but Lapis and Peridot and Jasper have definitely been straight up murder happy, and Porl let Steven fall off a cliff without even going after him or checking to see that he wasn't a splatter of meat on the ground, so. Villains, moms, what is actually the difference? But seriously, the fact that the stakes have been raised enough that Peridot thinks the entire Earth is gunna be destroyed, I figure there's gotta be at least an attempt at amassing as much gem-power as they can manage, and I feel like that's gonna mean some kinda character growth for all the homeworld gems! Well, I hope, anyways. Also, healing powers brought up again, specifically Steven healing Lapis, gotta be for something. I am determined, there will be uncorrupted or friendshipified gems from the basement, or I swear I'll make them myself.
Steaks or stakes or some other way of spelling that, something is rocketing skyward at ridiculous speed, but it would be really nice to know if I got the right word for that saying, yes? Please?
