Spoiler: guess about YD's beef w earth my guess(/headcanon?) is that after BD's efforts on earth turned into a huge - and probably expensive - mess, YD was tasked with cleaning up that mess. so now she's bitter because not only did this earth business cost the gem empire a lot of resources for what likely isn't even worth much payoff for them (i don't get the sense that earth is anything special compared to other gem colonies (from the homeworld perspective)), it cost her resources, and time, with something she didn't want to deal with and which probably got dropped in her lap because of someone else's incompetence (or at least what she perceives as someone else's incompetence. not enough info about BD's efforts to say if she actually screwed up.) like, she's very pointed about peridot wasting her time - though admittedly this could just be a general status thing rather than something about YD's personality/values. and what we've seen of her efforts are on her part very low-resource/low-effort/i'm not quite finding the right word i want. like, instead of waging all-out war, she's sent two of her gems, one ship, and the bulk of her strategy is the slow-cooking mostly-hands-off cluster plan. it's cheap (probably) and requires little of her attention, unlike BD's war. also, the vibe i got from her "i don't care about new opportunities" thing was impatience to be done with this business, not just personal anger. like, there's definitely a level of personal anger, but it seemed to me more as stemming from that impatience and frustration than... not sure how to phrase this, than from a beefier beef? if that makes any sense whatsoever :P like, it didn't strike me as she's personally angry at RQ or the rebellion in and of itself, or anything like that. granted, it didn't strike me as necessarily *not* that, but the impatience/frustration angle seems bigger to me.

WOW. talk about a taboo.
@hyrax Spoiler i have had similar thoughts! Pearl fusing with anyone is a big deal, esp if the Ruby-Sapphire divide was as big as it is. but a high-ranking Quartz? holy shit.
Spoiler: YD's grudge I'm still of the opinion that BD may not have survived the rebellion. If that happened then no wonder YD would want to fucking nuke the place where one of the other diamonds bit it.
Also I don't know who else keeps an eye on Rinaldo's IC blog but settle down, Cassandra. The combination of water and the phrase "form dissolves" makes me think this one's foreshadowing for upcoming Malachite Plot.

Not... really? Mindat says Malachite is 'very slightly' soluble in water containing CO2, and readily soluble in dilute acids.
it will lose it's shine when it comes into extended contact with water though and water a malachite has been in should ot be ingested as it is poisonous

People really overstate the toxicity of malachite. You're not going to instantly die if you get a mouthful of water that's touched some, especially polished. BUT ANYWAY [/tossing own lump of malachite from hand to hand] I'm just throwing noodles at the wall, but this one seems sticky.
