Also Subnautica is meant to be a sort of prequel slash lore companion to UW's other game, Natural Selection 2. :D
I might pick it up - I'm an avid FPS fan at heart and after learning some lore of it through Subnautica I am quite interested in the lore it has built over 14 years.
-bashes face against a wall trying to find wrecks in the deep hell zones- -finds one finally filled with many goodies including this stupid fucking moonpool thing i need- -ran out of batteries because i used them on the seaglider- FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
This is entirely my fault for playing such a dangerous game though. At least I know where the fucking thing is though. In case I want to corpse rush all the rooms in that thing.
Now that I've found the fragments I need/want... I forgot where they all are. =/// And I'm still scared to go back to my glitched file bc lol im lazy and dont want to have to use the seaglide to go retrieve the seamoth over at the island. Also according to the development Trello the Jan. update is already done?? Unless they mean "Done" as in "this is what parts of it has been done" but anyway the Jan update might be the disease research facility or the aquarium/prison!! It says "Lava Castle Precursor Base"
Resurrecting this thread because I finally played a save long enough to get a Cyclops. Leviathans are slightly less terrifying now! Now I'm trapped in the last Degassi base, in the deep reef. There's a crabsquid right outside the only exit. They make the most delightfully awful noises. It won't leave.
just wait until the new cyclops updates roll out... leviathans will be equally as terrifying but not as destructive :PPP if i remember correctly crabsquids are passive until provoked though. save and go out there and see what happens? unless you run into him with your seaglide he should leave you alone. his biggest thing is that emp.
Fucker ate my seaglide. I made it, I'm home, but there were two crabsquids, one that kept seeing me through the glass walls in the base, and two warpers in dangerous proximity. And the fucker ate my seaglide.
Cyclops update! YOU ARE NO LONGER SAFE. I had an awful texture bug that made certain things rainbow shiny with generic tech patterns? like when you scan things. But ALL OVER some things. And it shifted when I looked at things and was headache inducing. Fortunately it's now fixed. Also why do multipurpose rooms have to COST stability before I even start putting windows on I want that aesthetic
Subnautica is currently available for free at Epic Games! ( Or was, last I checked when I grabbed it a couple days ago.) I'm slowly playing through and I've got a pretty functional base set up by the kelp forest. I have thermal power and a moonpool, and a seamoth (but not a seaglide yet, because I keep forgetting to make one). I don't yet have everything I need to make a cyclops, but I'll get there; I do have a scanner room, and I'm writing down the coordinates for all the wrecks so that I don't keep getting stuck going to the same ones over and over since I can't untag a wreck that the scanner room has marked on the HUD. (Which is really frustrating, honestly.) For story purposes, I'm pretending that the coordinates list is from the scanner or Computer Wife. Spoiler: alterra spoips They seem to be based on libertarian values, from the lore I've gathered so far. And seem to be a company big enough that functionally they're a nation of sorts? Idk how functional they are as a company/nation, but that's what they look like. My view of the Precursors so far is that they're fuckups. The correct way to set up quarantine procedures is not to just slap a really big gun and give it automated firing capability and tell it to target anything entering or exiting orbit! You set up warnings so that people aren't getting close to the quarantine zone! Gods only know how many people have died because of that, and the only reason the known death toll isn't higher is because Alterra is fucking awful at being decent people.
my favourite alterra related data thing is the one in which they talk about relationships but use like... business-y terms to do it. It's so good. "revise your business model to ensure you are performing competitively"
I'm horrendously phobic of the ocean. Any large body of water is enough to make my heart beat fast, really. I got this during this free period from Epic. Gonna give it a good try and see if it doesn't help me out with my thalassophobia.
I'm generally Not A Fan of water levels but I generally like Subnautica. Perhaps because I feel that the threats are generally pretty manageable? But yeah. I've been playing through, slowly. Disappointed to find I can't set up my own base next to the cannon. And maybe waiting/saving up for VR. That's a thing, too. Anyone following the Below Zero expansion... sequel... thing with any interest?
I am! It's looking really (hee) cool from what I've seen so far, but I've pretty much only seen the images they have up on the site they linked.
