I think below the knee should be enough? I'm most used to them being ankle to floor length, but I think as long as it's not above the knee, it can probably pass muster. Navy suit should also be okay, I think.

    Thank you so much!

I was having flashbacks to showing up to debate tournaments in high school wearing on of my mom's pant suits when everybody else is in corduroys and a sweater, lol

At an outdoor event, tea, ballerina, or ankle skirts are acceptable, as are navy suits, or so saith my years of debutante lessons. (Those are the terms people use for formal dresses when discussing skirt length and they're nonsensical but it might help you to talk the talk.) I would recommend a shirt without much of a pattern to go with the suit, though - pinstripe or a subtle check would be acceptable but anything less subdued than that probably not so much.

Anyone know how to make Tumblr stop sending login links? It's super annoying and I hate it but there doesn't seem to be an option to disable it anywhere.

Anyone know a good website for ripping audio off of YouTube? The one I always used to use disappeared (youtube - mp3 dot org)

I'm signed up to go to the june 30th protest tomorrow but it's gonna be like 95 degrees and I'm not sure I can do it

is it even morally okay to not go though

if going would cause you undue suffering, it is morally okay to not go. no one is gonna gain anything if you do go and pass out from the heat or something like that

stay in the air conditioning and maybe email your senator instead if it's really bothering you

Letters and phone calls are even better and can also be done indoors, if you want to do something that feels more solid.

Thanks. I feel better about cancelling if it's too hot now. I've been emailing and voting and stuff but it's hard when my brain tells me nothing is ever enough. I'll keep trying.

Depending on the nature of the protest and your resources (e.g. "do you have a car"), you could also maybe drop by with a few twelve-packs of bottled water and hand them out to the protesters or something. Then you're materially helping the protest along, even if you don't directly participate.

what's a good amount to have in savings?

my mother keeps getting on me for "not having enough", but I think her perspective is somewhat skewed? by the time she was my age she'd been working for about 8 years, sometimes more than one job at a time, while living with her parents, and had saved up about 20K

Depends on your income and your economic needs, really - the baseline I've heard is that if you can afford to have savings, it's good to have enough for two to three months' worth of expenses banked.

Edit: obviously if you're saving for something specific - a car, a house down payment, a security deposit, a vacation - you'd want to have a hard number for that to work towards, but just speaking of savings that it's good to have in case something happens, that's the rule of thumb I've heard.

definitely nothing specific. I'm moving countries soon and have already covered most of the costs of that, but because of work visa stuff I might not be able to work (in that country) for a bit? however, I have options for working online, and I have enough saved for, by my rounded up estimations of costs, at least a year if not two
not to mention that I'll be moving in with my partner, and we'll be sharing costs, so 2-3 months as a baseline is good to know

Maybe something like, “I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I’ve been through some rough times myself and my heart goes out to you. If you could use a place to talk about it or just chill, [brief details about forum]. You’d be more than welcome. No pressure, you just seem like a cool person.”
