Facial, sorry for not elaborating! And it’s mostly because I wear makeup a lot and I think I heard you’re supposed to moisturize?

Okay, if you're washing your makeup off and not experiencing any skin problems (dryness, breakouts, etc) I'm probably gonna rec you just a middle of the road moisturizer that's oil free bc it sounds like your skin probably isn't dry or you would have noticed a problem. You can probably get a drugstore moisturizer with few problems - Neutrogena has an oil-free one for sensitive skin that I like, but anyway you're probably going to be looking for something for normal skin. Just apply it lightly after you wash your face and wait about five minutes for it to completely absorb into the skin before you start your makeup routine.

Also something with SPF, if your makeup doesn't have it.

Thanks for the tips! Oil-free definitely sounds good—my face skin isn’t crazy oily but it does get oily sometimes, so...

And SPF is def a good idea, I’m pretty fair-skinned and burn sometimes...

Moisturizer will actually help it be less oily! It's rad.

I also used Neutrogena - it's excellent value for price, though I used their spf 35 rather than their sensitive skin version of the oil-free moisturizer.

(and then I fell really hard down the makeup rabbit hole and now use BB cream as my primary moisturizer but have like 4 different moisturizers for different contexts)

I have incredibly sensitive skin so I can only use one (expensive) brand's spf formula, unfortunately, so I have no recs for that, but spf on your face is never a bad idea. Neutrogena is a great brand for bang for your buck, though - I use their makeup remover and it works well.

Thank you both so much, that’s EXTREMELY helpful! <3 I’ll def give the Neutrogena stuff a look next time I’m at a drugstore!

Anyone who’s moved out of state have any ideas on things I should expect.

Like I know I need to change my address with a lot of stuff, but how do I do that and what timeframe am I looking at I need to do it in?

Should I transfer my bank account to another before I go, take by funds out and take it with me, or just let the branch know what’s going on and then transfer later?

I’m right at the two week until take off day.

for banks: is it an exclusively local bank (like a community credit union, or a very small regional bank) or is it a national bank? if it's a national bank, does it maintain offices and banks where you are moving? also, finally, is it a bank you like?

when i moved from virginia to iowa, i kept my primary physical bank open, even though it's largely an east coast bank, and i won't be able to go to one in person unless i drive like six hours in the direction of home. i kept it open because my parents have an account with that bank, and there is a branch in my hometown - so when my parents want to easily send me money, still having that bank is useful

it's also bb&t and i utterly loathe it, and as soon as i reach a reasonable point where even with the benefit of easily transferred money, it holds no utility, i am closing that account with extreme prejudice

my actual primary bank account is an online one - it's actually two; i use simple for my day to day checking account needs, and ally savings for my savings account. i am a millenial; i love the convenience of an online bank

upon moving to iowa, i've also opened an account at the local credit union, whose primary purpose was establishing a joint account for n, lebesgue, and myself for depositing paychecks and paying shared bills

banks usually require some kind of proof that you have residency - generally, a piece of mail addressed to you is sufficient

check with your new state what kind of establishing identity information is required for getting a driver's license or state id card. virginia required supplying my ssn and a piece of mail addressed to me verifying my residency. iowa requires like... another five pieces of information, and the actual ssn card, not just rattling off the number, which i hadn't thought to check for and was utterly unprepared the day lebesgue and i arrived at the dmv office to get new licenses....

state's often have laws about needing to establish identity and acquiring a new state id and getting things like your car (if you have one) registered. i think 30 days is average for most of these things but again, check with your state

also, this is probably terrible advice, but unless you get arrested, you can pretty easily show up like six months after you moved and get all of that information sorted out (did i register my car almost .... seven? months after i moved to iowa? is it supposed to be done within 30 days? yes and yes. i hadn't gotten arrested yet, so there was no reason to mention the time frame, and nothing bad happened) this isn't a recommendation to wait hellishly long, this is just... it's not the end of the world if you miss these deadlines

most services that require your address "ought" to be taken care of within the first month of moving, but in practice whenever you get to it. the only things i needed to get sorted out with any urgency were my amazon and etsy accounts, and that was because i kept accidentally sending mail to my parents' house. also technically my online bank information, but honestly i put it off until taxes and i realized i needed to change the address so that my tax information on my savings account got sent to the right address

depending on your phone plan, that might be relevant. i was still on my parents' when i moved out, so there was no need to bother with that, because i wasn't the account holder. i now have a shiny new phone plan that belongs to me, and that is something i would want to change relatively quickly

people keep bringing up the whole "cracking your neck is bad for you" and "cracking your neck causes strokes" thing and I'm out here without healthcare for a while and not many other easily achievable options to relieve the pain
does anyone have suggestions other than a neck massager (I already have one and I'm gonna try use it more)?

One of those packs filled with rice or corn that you can stick in the microwave or the freezer - sometimes you want warmth and sometimes you want cold and they're really inexpensive to make if you can't find one.

I'm mildly alarmed that at my neuro appointment to look at the nerve damage in my wrist, they did the usual doctor's office weight check and I'm at least seven or so pounds heavier than the last time I weighed myself (which is rare, it was probably a couple months ago). I'm pretty tiny and slim, so this much gain is startling- it's literally the most I've weighed in my whole life. Only thing I can think of that's changed in that period is that I started exercising a little more (sorta? I used to just spend an hour on the elliptical at a pretty calm pace 2-3 times a week, now I do a quick 15 minute warmup on the elliptical and then I do the 30 minute cardio section at Planet Fitness, again usually 2-3 times a week only). I know exercise can cause weight gain because of muscle density and whatnot, but is that really a normal amount, or could there be something going on that I need to get looked at for? :X

(I despise doctor's visits because I mysteriously get amnesia and forget literally everything I'd planned ahead of time to ask during appointments, every time, and writing it down doesn't help since I'll just mysteriously forget the notes I'm carrying exist instead even if they're in my hands =_= so I'd rather not make an appointment unless this is a 'definitely needs a doctor to check out' sorta thing.)

So. I tried to make an instagram account lately, and was told that there was already an account attached to my email address. Which is not hugely surprising since I have a terrible memory and could have easily joined up in the past and forgot about it. However, when I tried to log in I get a message saying my account has been deactivated for content violations - which is somewhat alarming since I don’t think I’ve ever posted anything- and I need to send them a selfie for verification if I want to reactivate it. (Which is apparently what Instagram does, but I have a deep aversion to photographs of myself on the internet). On looking further into my emails, it doesn’t seem that I ever got a verification to having joined in the first place.

So I guess my question is have I been hacked? I doubt this a bit because I would have assumed a hacker would have changed the password on the account, but idk. Is there any way to check?

    @aetherGeologist There’s this: https://haveibeenpwned.com/

Don’t be too alarmed if you get a lot of results. What it often means is that that particular combination of user name and password may not be secure anymore and you should probably change the password.

Also check the "Passwords" section. Yes, it sounds like some top-tier sucker bait, but I checked out the code and they don't actually see your password at any point.

The Minneapolis Institute of Art looks close to Phillips West on Google Maps, and it's a free museum with lots of cool art if you are into art museums! I can't help with restaurants though, unfortunately

Re: Instagram. I'm not sure it actually sends out verification emails.

I had someone else make an account with my email and so I'd get notifications about their stuff. Account using my email was not suspended and I ended up using the password reset to get in and change my address to an actual junk email.
